Lifetime fuel filter......Haha ya right

Yea, im wondering this very same thing.
Sorta like the transmissions that dont have fill/check sticks. The trans WILL leak eventually. And how are you supposed to know how much fluid is in there? Its good that Toyota thinks their parts will last forever, but EVERYTHING will EVENTUALLY fail. Filters do exactly what the name suggests...they FILTER stuff, which means they stop foreign particles from getting by. Thusly, the filter will become clogged and fill up with foreign material over time.
By this thinking, why even bother to put a filter on the truck? Or, why dont they make "lifetime" oil filters?
A little insurance goes a long way IMHO.

Just replaced the fuel filter on my 2001 - 45k miles. I cut the old one open, unravelled the paper roll inside and it looked fairly clean. Glad I did it anyway.
I will say I had a bitch of a time getting the fittings leak free on the new ( Genuine Toyota) filter though. Took my time, used the correct flare wrenchs, aligned everything before I torqued the fittings.........still drip....drip...drip on the front/output side.
Plan for some extra time. The banjo type connections with washers are alot more forgiving then these compression type !

Ya....my was a pain in the ass to get it to stop leaking...my front fitting was leaking as well. I was scared I was gonna break that front line. Took me a 1/4 can of PB blaster to get them loose too.

I didn't need anything but wrenched to get mine off (120k miles), and no leaks putting it on. I was skeptical putting it on without thread tape(being a plumber, we use a LOT of teflon tape).
