I don't know what that other tape is .. but I think cebby hit the nail on the head .. it was all that tire shine on there. I took some dish washing deteregent to it on the other two wheels, and the duct tape stuck fine.
and then instead of making my newspaper "flower" .. slipping a trash bag over the rest of it, and cutting out the wheel portion worked great.

Use AJAX to clean them tires then Vinylex on your tires to make them shiny, works great and doesn't collect grime and dirt. Stays looking good a long time.
They did turn out well, despite your "flowery" tendencies...

use a self etching primer ... it will stick better to the rim.
be careful when using the acetone, if you poor too much it will cause the finish on the rims to "krinkle up" .. giving you a rougher finish

its that enamel coat thiat will ruin it .. it makes it look shiny .. it will dull after a few weeks .. but man, talk about the bling bling when you first do it.

i think i'll be tackling this task soon...i have a set of MT Classic II's and from the looks of it it doesn't have a clear coat of it so the prepping should be good. I'll sand it down w/ some fine grit sandpaper (wet) prime it w/ the etching primer and go over it w/ the desired paint...possibly doing a satin clear coat so it wont have that shine...
