When my rig was stock, the best I ever got was around 340 on a tank, but since my mods I now get around 180 on the odometer, which is aprox 220 on the tank......

wierd...i routinely get 320+ out of my tank. i do city driving (below 30mph) all week, and then 200mi roadtrip every weekend to louisville.

maybe it's the stock setup that helps...?

It's real nice having the ability to buy fuel when its cheaper and taking a couple of weeks to use it up.

On long trips through California I don't need to gas up. Nevada gas pumps are so cheap.

A few years ago N. California had a major power outage. Most gas stations didn't have power for the pumps. I carried a 5 gallon jeep can and had to stop at a hotel until the power returned so I could fuel up.

That's when I set a plan to get an aux tank.

On my 90 4 Runner 4x4 V6 with A/T and A/C I just went through a week of driving like a granny. Never reving over 3000 upon acceleration and driving between 55 and 65 on the interstate. I found that with the faster speeds over 60, that on a few grades on the interstate the trans had to shift out of overdrive and unlock. That pushed rpms up to 3500 or more. If I stayed at 60 or less, the trans only unlocked, but stayed in overdrive so rpms only went up to the upper 2ks at the most. The rpms also stayed below 2500 when cruising. Doing this, I got 220 miles and then filled up with 14.5 gallons of gas. When I factor in the fact that I run 30" tires and am still geared for 28, Im getting around 235 miles on 14.5 gallons of gas. That puts me at around 16mpg. No, it was NOT fun driving like that, but at least I got some bragging rights now.

just filled up, got 316 miles on 16.8gallons. That makes 18.8mpg for mixed driving (and cost me $37 here in San Diego!)

The best I was able to squeeze out of my tank was around 370 miles, and that was on the highway behind another car.

I was getting around 300 a week and a half ago, before the 285's. Just filled up 15.17 gal today after 240 unadjusted miles. How do I calculate how may miles I actually went?

I just went 335 miles til it sputtered to halt and then put 18.5 gal back in. I was testing the fuel gauge TSB. MPG was 18 but I usually get over 19. This on a '99 4x4 with junk on it.

well i'll say driving with a light foot sure does make a difference. this past tank i kept it under 2500rpm as much as possible, accelerated slowly, and went about 65-70 on the freeway. tho i'll admit i did a little (very little) 4wheeling in 4lo on this tank, and did step on it a few times.
the gas light didn't come on until 275 miles. i happened to be near the gas station i usually go to at that point so i just filled up then. i could have easily gone to 300 miles. it took 16.25 gallons.

so that translates to an MPG of just over 17. not bad considering everything i've done to the runner. too bad driving like that is boring

Well I just got my injectors cleaned and new plugs. Man it runs nice and seems to have a bit more power .
This led me to drive a little harder. But more lead foot = more fun and ......I almost ran out of gas going up a hill near my house (with the odometer at 295miles). I think I will only go miles over when the gaslight from now on.
