I would try that first (though if they are bad enough to vibrate, they are probably beyond greasing)

Make sure you mark the driveline and slipyoke when you take it apart to keep all the u-joints in phase.

MLiebal and I

had the same exact symptoms and the lug eccentric balance cured it. Actually a lug eccentric balance was the first thing i did before tearing into the front end and spending far more then the balance.

let me tell you my on going vibration mystery. starting having vibration in the rear end at 60 mph +. had to get the timing belt changed so i had my mech look at the rear, and he couldnt see anything. got new u joints, new tires, road force balance, alighnment, balanced drive shaft, and im still vibrating. read on another forum where a guy said the rear drum brakes could warp and cause this. could a bad rim cause this vibration ?

x5 on the Ujoints. I am typing this at Stevinson West Toyota-I've been feeling a weird noise and occasional vibration as described-typically higher speeds. Not shimmy through the steering wheel, vibration of the driveline seemingly -and today it was so bad I could not see through the rear view mirror at all.

Rear U joint being replaced as I type. Don't neglect those zerk fittings! how many are there?16 or 19?something like that...

I had bought a 86 chevy truck from my brother. The truck developed a vibration that drove me nuts. checked all the usual suspects with no luck. I had also tried the spare on each corner to see if there was a change.
It turned out to be a brake drum that had not been centered correctly when it was turned. after it was re cut the problem went away.

My idler(pitman) arm caused this 'selective wobble' in my 87 4Runner. Even though that's usually detected fairly easily in the steering wheel, mine did not do so. It just felt like a wheel was going to come off. Replaced it and the wobble went away. (Jacked up the front end and pulled back and forth from top to bottom and the arm was CLEARLY sloppy)

When I had more of a 'VIBRATION' going on(very fast and no indicative of same timing of wheel revolution) it was my u-joint taking a proverbial dump.

I've also had wobble that would never stay smooth long after balancing/rotating.... because the TIRES, themselves, were actually getting 'waves' in them and 'lobe'ing' out, not long after I'd balance them. (they had 80K on them but still had tread-- BFG AT's) I've since replaced those with new ones and have NO wobble/vibration, etc., any longer.

Best wishes finding this out... looks like you have some good help flying your way! Viva Yotatech! lol
