How do I beef up a 3.0?

it has a strong bottom end from what I can tell. Definately worth the research to find out the nickel content in the block's alloy.... Headgasket issues can be resolved with head studs and better gaskets.... Crank is forged from the factory, but I dont know how strong the rods are. This engine can make power if it is allowed to breath...i think... I am far from any thing close to an expert on anything much less engines.
Pistons I dont know if any of the supra engine's high performance pistons will work, but also worth investigating.
Dan was working on a 3vzfe head (24v) on the 3vze (12v sohc), but the only issue i see is the upper idler and engine block water outlet....I think that will be a major hurdle.
DOA is currently making heads, cams, OS valves, and bored out TB's.
Of course we all know about headers and exhuast....
Another thing I shall be attempting soon is putting in a 7mge's VAFM for more breathing capability. As it is the 3vze breathes through about 4sq in of opening on the VAFM but the stock TB has a good 7.5 sq in. The 7mge allows more flow as its about 6sq in or so....

How much more power do you want?
The right gears for the tires you have is a good start, a stick makes things better and I would advise 5.29's.
I now have a 3.4 with 5.29's and 33's. It hauls even with the auto.
I had the 3.0 with 5.29's and 31's and it was about this fast.

Or you could swap it for a 3.4 for around $5000 + !
Good Luck!

I tried to get more power from my 3.0 and spent alot of money and had alot of down time in the process. To me the only thing that seem to work where headers and a good intake system everthing else was a waste of $ and if you build up a 3.0 (block-heads) it will cost about the same or more then a 3.4 swap and still not be as fast or reliable and will use more gas. But that's just my thoughts. the 3.0 is still better then other manufactures V6's.

That's a shame! When I did my heads, ported, polished and oversize valves it cost me $500 just for the machine work & valves on the heads! I did the mechanical work myself! As far as reliability, I'll take a 3.0 any day of the week and twice on Sunday! I got almost 300,000 miles out of my stock 3.0 before the HG leaked! Strapping some headers on the 3.0 and getting rid of that crossover makes a big difference. The biggest problem with the 3.0 is that it can't breathe, it's conjested! Let the 3.0 breathe and you'll get some new life into her! The 3.4 swap will cost you in excess of $5000, I did all the work myself on my 3.0 and the mods I did made a huge difference! Total cost for machine work and parts were around $2500, I did everything else myself! If you had to pay for the labor it still wouldn't cost as much as the 3.4 swap!
And that's my 2cents and opinion!

header suggestions?
hey nunsa!
any suggestions on brand names of headers and ignitions? ive been looking around and most places if checked cant seem to find anything to fit my rig. im in canada and it seems that anything you want for under the hood are non existant here. i would love to order some from the states and i may do just that, im waiting for the us dollar to drop more! im presuming you are refering to the isr mod when you say get rid of the air intake pipe. that is job 1 for the new year. i have a complete 3.0 w/tranny out of an 89, so the throttle body and head work can be done on the parts from that motor then swap them onto mine. what size valves and injectors and as for cams, who makes good ones? i know there are lots of ? there and i would really appreciate any info you would be able to supply. thanks!

Get your heads ported and polished and get bigger valves and injectors, get a bigger cams, get your throttlebody bored out! Upgrade you ignition hotter coil, ignitor, wires...!

THIS https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/3-4-swap-complete-still-some-issues-45913/ is another reason to consider freshening up your 3.0 and keeping it.

Header options?
Hi All
I know that NWOR offers headers and so does Downey. I have heard that Thorley Headers is developing a set for the 3.0. But when I go to their website. They are listed but no price or picture or information. Does anybody out in the land of Yotatech know anything about them?
