homemade winch mount pics.....anyone have any?
does anyone have any pics of any homemade winch mounts. i bought a magnum 9000 winch and i'm going to make my own mount for it out of a flat plate and some square tubing. i figured i'd set it up like a hitch and receiver deal so that i don't have to leave it on the truck all the time.

Sorry for being off topic but I have a question for flamedx4, I was looking at your pics and I like that inclinometer, my question is they do make one for a toyota sr5 I believe but it has a wire connected to it, do all toyota trucks have that wire plug to plug it into? Or do you not even have to plug in the wire? Also what does the wire do if you have to plug it in?
Sorry for off topic!
Thanks,
Mario

i like the idea of setting it up with the quick connects. that setup is about what i have in mind except i think that i'm going to use 2 pieces of square tubing under the flat metal.

I built a nice winch mount for my 85, I frenched it into the front bumper. Not a removeable one though, I don't trust those. Lotta strain can be had for one point pulling, although I know many people who do it, I wonder how many have *really* put it to the test? Not to mention the difficulty of putting it on after you get stuck...

Here you can see it in the front bumper:

If anyone is interested, lemme go dig through the old style hard photos, I know I had some of the mount laying on the ground ready to be bolted on.

It did have 2 wires - they're for the light. So if you don't want a light you don't have to mess with the wires. Otherwise you just ground one and hook the other to the dash lights wherever convenient.

with mine i'll put it on when i head to the woods or when i'm driving it in the snow. i just want to be able to take it off whenever its not needed. the majority of the time my truck will be sitting so there is no need to leave the winch on it out in the rain.

LOL, understood and agreed! For the same reason I had thought of making one with 2 receiver tubes, for both ends too, and running cables to both front and rear. But I'm making one for the 90 very similar to what I did with the 85. Might protect me if I hit a deer...

heres some pics of my winch mount. i still have some work to do yet though. i'm going to add more tubing to the front of the truck and mount my solenoid box over the drum somehow. i went in town today to get some hitch pins that lock so that someone can't just walk up to the truck and snatch my winch. hopefully be done with it tomorrow. the last one is of my mastercraft m/t's mounted on black widow rims.

I made my own.
I have a reese reciever in the front and rear.
I have square tube that fites ther reese and a 1/2 plate steel on top with the winch I used 2 90 deg to mount the roller. I have a optima yellow top and attached marine connectors to the top and used welding cable to warren quick disconnects ( you can buy at northern). if you need pics I can supply pm me .

I couldn't find a pic of the mount - I have some but you have no idea how many pictures I have in various boxes, and no organization. So I made a sketch. It's very simple and this mount is much stronger than the frame - never a problem with it.

It was bugging me, and I realized I had left out a critical part, so I redid the drawing - now it's really a mess. If you had looked at it already - it's different now.

Thanks for the drawings Phil. I'll refer to 'em when it comes time to build one. I really like the look of the stock bumper and would like to keep it on the truck.
