Jim, did you use any spring compressors to put them in / get the old ones out?

I had a friend helping me and he just pushed down on the axle (his foot pushing down on the brake drum) while I got the first one in. The other side was easy once you get the axle to droop.
loosehead said he didnt have to.

looks real good!

Did mine and install was a incredibly easy, i am running them with stock rear shocks and love them, the firmness of the stock shocks compensates for the soft feel of the springs i got 3 3/4 inches of lift on either side

John, no compressor necessary. Although, they were a little tight going in, it took a little muscle.

Sorry, the only before pics I have are wheeling pics...I am not good at documenting my mods.

No, I didn't have to. But I did disconnect the sway bar. I actually removed it, but that is not necessary.

It sounds like the swaybar is up to you, but a panhard drop is the way to go. IF it read it right....

i always read that removing it causes more harm than good. maybe just disconnect it to install springs and then reconnect.

I don't know how it could cause any harm...unless you are talking about the potential of increased body roll in an emergency situation on the highway.

I have only driven with it removed about 20 miles and I have not wheeled it yet. So I do not have an firm opinion. However, so far so good. I do not notice any increase in body roll.

As far as the drive shaft hitting the gas tank skid...my gas tank skid is so messed up that it regularly comes into contact with my driveshaft. It did with the 891's and sway bar attached. I am sure it will with the FJ80's and sway bar removed. It is basically beyond straightening. When it gets real bad I just beat it with a BFH and make it clear. Then its fine till the next time the truck is sitting on it and it bends again.

I will keep you all updated on any reactions I have with these as I continue to test them out.

well i didnt mean harm as in destroying your truck, but being a pain, such as hitting the gas tank skid. i guess its not really that big of a deal. i can't find where i read that now. i'll go look...

EDIT - found it on steve's site (sonoransteel)

Disconnecting the rear sway bar leads to 3 big issues. 1) it bangs around since it is connected to the axle and not the frame when disconnected. 2) The bar end gets caught in the skid plate/gas tank bracket on the drivers side. This will need to be pried out. 3) It will get lodged up into the frame on the passenger side. The bottom line is that the rear sway bar holds nothing back, it will bend before it limits articulation. Don't waste your time disconnecting
so it's about disconnecting it, not removing it. my bad.

New impression:

I just pulled out of a driveway into traffic quickly. When I made the left hand turn the truck leaned farther than it used to with the sway bar attached. The uneasy part is that it felt like it wanted to stay leaning.

So, the sway bar must have been doing something. I will be installing it again.

I would agree that you are better off having the rear sway bar connected. I 've said this in other threads before: for those of you who have installed quick discos up front, swap your old stock sway bar endlinks to the rear, they are slightly longer and will help get the rear bar closet to where it should be.

I know I still owe you some photos, Garrett. I'll get to them this weekend!

I swapped out my OME 891 today with some Crusier coils I picked up from Adrian. I got over 4" of lift out of them. Way to much. I had the 891's + cone + trim packer and that gave me about 3.25" of rear lift. The cruiser coils netted me at least another 1". Right now the rear is 2" higher than the front and I have 2.5" suspension lift in the front. Looks like a dragster. I'll post some pictures tomorrow when it's light. I was wondering if someone (Jim, Jayson, etc...) could measure for me the their rear height from the center of the wheels to the bottom of the fender lip. I have the limited style flairs like Jim. Not sure what I'm gonna do now. The ride is much nicer but it's just too tall. Maybe I'll see if I can pick up another set. Anyone want any 4" lift coils?
