fuel trim code p0170 and bad fuel economy
ive got a 95 tacoma with the 3.4l, 5-speed manual, 4x4 that has a fuel trim code p0170 and is getting about 12mpg. the fuel return line is off the tank but i was wondering if how much of the issue that is causing. also does anyone know if they sell that fuel return line part that goes in the tank. I was thinking a vacuum leak could also be contributing to the fuel trim issue as well. i have cleaned the MAF and i am 99% sure it is not the O2 sensors. Any help would be great. thanks guys

I too had the P0170 in my 3.4L 4runner (automatic). Here's what I did...
Filled tank and added gumout fuel injector cleaning. 100 miles later did the following:
Ran Seafoam 1/2 bottle (engine detergent) thru vacuum line per instructions
Disconnected battery to clear codes.
Changed plugs (Seafoam suggests the above treatment will foul plugs) They looked dirty and figured what the hell it’s been 35k miles.
Change PCV out with new.
Removed MAF and cleaned.
Reconnected battery
Dueched out interior and wash/dry exterior.
200 miles since and no CEL and it is running beautifully. More response, pep, etc.
A questions remains: Was the fix from the mechanical repairs or the beautification factor i.e. cleaning
Hope this helps. -MD
