E-locker question

first of all what is an E locker and what is it used for?? second, would my 02 tacoma sr-5 4x4 have it??

This is definitely a newbie section question.

That being said, the e-locker is a special electrically-actuated differential that is for off-road use only. When activated (can only be done in 4WD-LO) both rear tires spin at the same speed no matter what. Excellent for use in low-traction situations. It is a coveted option for anyone with a 1996-2000 4wd 4Runner, or 1997-2005+ Tacoma.

If you're tacoma has the TRD package, then yes. If not, no.

gotcha thanks guys........ so when i spin out in my 02 v6 tacoma 4x4 sr-5 (not the trd) only one wheel spins?

Correct, with out a traction device only one wheel (whichever has the least traction) gets the power.

Correct, but even with a TRD Tacoma it would only spin one tire because the locker can only be engaged in 4WD-Low, unless they do the grey wire mod to it.

oh ok...hmmmm the reason why i asked was bc i was in a grass field the other day in 2 wheel drive and i smacked the gas going straight and both tires flung dirt everywhere.. why not just one?? plus i cant spin my tires on the road. they grab and go!

It doesn't matter, since you have to physically lock the locker by pressing a button and being in 4wd, it isn't automatic. Besides if both wheels have similar traction they will both spin.

You can't spin your tires on the road because you don't have the horsepower to do it. Now if you had a supercharger you could. Take a sharp u-turn some time and slam on the gas; your inside tire will spin, I guarantee it.

can anyone suggest a good aftermarket e-locker for a 95.5 taco v6 with auto tranny? can i upgrade to TRD from stock non-TRD diff?

You would have to swap entire rear axle housings. And obtain an elocker ECU.

There are no aftermarket elockers.
