Custom 3rd Gen 4Runner Gas Tank Skid
I knew the day would eventually come. After the trip to Martinez and Upper Woodpecker with Adrian it was here.
Stock gas tank skid was toast so I made a new one out of 11 gauge sheet and tube.

Damn, I'll bet it is bomb proof.
You need to drill some holes to let the swamp water run out. In my area it would fill with water and freeze, expand and still crush the fuel tank.
So, how soon can I get mine if I order it now? I got all the rest of your ass end stuff, might as well get this too.

You'll also need to cut out and send me your stock rear mounts.
There is a drain hole at the rear, which is fine for Arizona. You may have to swiss cheese it more.

Looks good Steve, that seemed to be the last area of armoring left under your truck. Of course the lengthened belly pan too, but you know what I mean.
The only advice I was given when working on mine is to make the mounts thicker because they are prone to bending under heavy, shock loads. Looks like you did that and have a fine piece of steel.
Mine is cheesed up moderately for drainage, I find the benefit to be negligible after having ot for one winter.
Mark is right on with the powdercoat on the inside. That is where I have the biggest problem with mine. The outside can drip dry but even with the holes the inside holds water.

Well.......................
I'll spray paint it for Colorado and get it powder coated when I get back.
If we were wheelin in AZ I would not even have to paint it.
After seeing Adrians gas tank skid, I was Inspired.
FYI- ASU Dan has to sign the book ever time he goes to Long Wongs too....................................

If you saw the pictures / video of Steve high centered, some of that was the full vehicle weight on the gas tank skid, and some was on the crossmember in front of the skid. It has a slight deformation, but it's not crushed. If I hadn't seen the full weight on that thing, I wouldn't have believed it could stand up to that.
:pat: I told him several times, Be Happy, if Adrian hadn't taken you up that line, the skid would never have gotten a true test
Check his website & pictures again, with the amount of labor hours in that thing, you could buy the equipment, make it yourself, and still be ahead of what someone would have to charge to make one like that....
