If you don't have anything factory you'll need some sort of towers such as Yakima Q-towers with crossbars. They are pretty spendy new. I think I would be hesitant to bore holes in my roof unless your really good at stuff like that or have it professionally done.

my way
I ran into the same prob having no stock rack and a sunroof I'd care not to cover up. I just got my 45''x50'' Surco in the mail and just ordered some odd mounting stuff, magnets. I'm trying two setups, one with four of the biggest cb antenna mounts I could find (5'' in diameter 95lbs pull) and one with 6 rectanguler mags (135 lbs pull but less surface area) I plan on just drilling bolt holes in the rackes floor beams and slapping it on. Of course I will test the strength out a lot too. I also plan to run a steel safety cable from the rack to my hitch when I have it loaded for extra insurance. I think it will work but I will have to find out after Christmas I won't be loading up with heavy stuff like a hi-lift and ax. I plan to put 4 lights on the front and when I go camping put mine and my friends backpacks up there (10lbs each max )so I will be able to see out the back and won't have to fold seats.
I will keep you posted, wish me luck.
