8+ foot bed conversion
hi, i want to convert my '99 prerunners 6 foot bed to an 8 (or more maybe?). do yall know if theres aftermarket companies for it or should i just watch ebay till a parts truck shows up with a good bed, or can i convert from another brand?

Kind of like your user name...it sounds like a bad idea...unless you are just doing it to have the biggest taco bed...ever.
I'd hope you wouldnt want to actually use it for hauling anything because the bumper/frame would be so far back from the rear axle it would most likely twist/bend things like your frame/bed mounts right off.
If you want a bigger bed, move the rear axle back at least a foot so it doesnt look so retarded.

maybe use a t100 long bed and cut it down the middle to lessen the width...as others said, you would have to make the frame longer in the rear...
any reasoning for wanting a longer bed?

I think its a really interesting idea, if you have the time and money to put into it, definitely give it a shot and take lots of pictures. Who knows, it may end up being really cool if done right...

alright, so i looked at all that, and i think it might be easier just to find a t100 or something with a long bed. is there any prerunner/trd equivalent in those models? i need as close as i can get to 2 tons in the bed with no problems. the reason i need such a long bed is im going to california and back from georgia with my friends, and im hauling all our stuff.

you could get a 3g Pickup long bed. its an 8 foot bed, the right width, and would not require any serious modifications to fit...

You do realize that that 2 tons is almost, if not how much your truck weighs!!! You will not find a toyota anywhere that will support that much weight in the bed...I would be afraid to put that much weight in a dually!!!
If you do plan on doing this you are going to have to factor in:
Higher performance brakes l(like make new tundra rotors fit)
Air bags
Gas money...probably wont be able to go over 55mph anyways
Engine mods (cooling for sure)
etc
Also tell me when you are going to be on the road, cause I dont want to be anywhere near you with that much weight
Why dont you just buy or rent a trailer...seems to me that is would be way cheaper than a new truck

I've heard of frame failure induced by a tailgate-mounted spare tire. The kind of torque you'd develop in your frame with 2 extra feet of bed alone could be enough, let alone subjecting it to any kind of loading.

buy a brand new tundra 2wd, then you can put I believe 5000 lbs in the bed. plus its a full size truck with a long bed haha

actually in my 88 ive had the bed full of concrete gardening bricks, like, VERY high... up to the top of the bedsides and a little over... was HEAVY... must have been almost a ton, and while it sank my bed over the tires and gave me a california lift and ate gas, it pulled it... haha. never know what these old yotas can take
