Ya know this makes me wonder, if I slam my foot to the floor in my t100 is shifts no later than 3500rpm with over drive on. With it off I can eek out to 4200rpm and it shifts. I have never had it go past that since I got the truck..

Gonna go double check it now..

I noticed...
When I mash my foot to the floor
Mine dosen't shift till around 5000rpm or 5500rpm
Depending on the day and the weather conditions...
I get power all the way through, but only through the first 2 gears...
Once I am in thrid it feel like the runner is trying to catch up with itself...
Still beat alot of other SUVs on the road off the line though..
Even with the ECT off....

Welp went out and got the engine up to operating temp to see whats up.

I think I need a bit info first: 96 T100 x-cab 4x4, 4.30 gears, A340F 4 speed trans and 31" AT's. The only weight in it is me and the tolbox that isnt full right now.

With overdrive on from a dead stop it went to 4200rpm but thats was it and it shifted. As I gained speed it felt like it was trying to catch up with itself but still shifted smoothley.

With OD off I get it up to about 4600-4800rpm and shifted, again once it went to 3rd gear I had a long way for power to come... Even with my foot to the floor it takes time to catch up..

Now this doesnt suprise me much, yota trucks have great lowend power but were never speed demons. They have excellent low range b/c of thier gearing, alot of american trucks do not. I find that my trans shifts very smooth for 185k, call it crazy but previous owner towed his boat a few times a year and also did alot of driving, he flushed the trans every 15k he said and its clean as a whistle..

That doesn't sound right. OD on or off shouldn't be affecting shift points. Maybe check your throttle cable to make sure that you are getting wot when you floor it.

I dunno, I will checkit but what should it be ajusted to? Tight as possible, somewhat tight, etc?

My haynes says to make sure the pedal is released, the throttle valve is closed and that the line is taunt. Then measure the distance between the stopper and outer sheath of the cable and it should be within 1mm.

Well here we go, I think it helped as I can now get up to 4800rpm and almost redline, where as before it wouldnt even break 4200rpm to easy. I noticed it was a bit better, but again like the others 3rd and 4th gear dont offer much pickup.

Anyway here is what I adjusted, hope its right as my haynes manual was very vauge..I circled it in red..was a bit loose but not much..

Elton, that be the one I adjusted. Alot of yotas used the same setup-like my camry, haynes was a waste as it gave me a pitcute of a tiny bit of that cable and the bracket..

Mine w/o trying this sounds exactly the same. I have an auto so I can't rev the sucker but this is why I'm confused as to others that can keep power in this rpm range.

My motor is still strong and performs well. No weird noises but definitely not the speed demon that others in this thread have made their trucks to be...

>okay in first gear, about 4800 RPMs in second gear and by third gear, anything over 4500 RPMs and it feels like the truck is slowing down.

Take the boat off your roof! J/K

My 04 Tacoma TRD 4x4 pulls like...

A mad dog from 3,000 up. It's a 5 pd with Magnaflow, Deckplate, and ISR mod. My 99 V8 Dakota had less otrque per pound than my Taco.

I almost never shift down out of overdrive on the freeway. It pulls great in 3rd gear on mountain roads, only above 8000 feet does it need more throttle or a back shift.

I think the guys with a 4Runner (extra weight) or auto trans (slush box) are getting hurt on extra power.

I just feel I am runningout of gear with my power..
(auto trans)
I goes fine first and second but then thrid and 4th it's like
'oh theres power....I have no where to put it....oh well'
And then my speed will just slowly increase a little more than that....
Oh how I wish I had a 5 Speed and A S/C

I feel theres not power over 4k. I have the usual mods, but there no high speed grunt. When it goes a slight uphill the rpms will bog down and its all hell from there. Its either the stock crap exh manifold or it just needs a blower from the weight of the truck. but its def a low end monster.

I think a s/c would cure the problem honestly. I wanted a stick but the truck was such a good deal I couldnt pass it up.

Wonder if a deckplate mod would help?
