3rd Gen 4Runner 4x clarification
Please help me clarify something on 4WDemand. First, it was available on 99+ 3rd Gen Limited 4Runners right? And it is either 4 high or 2high correct? No low? I'm looking into buying a 3rd gen and I'd really like to have a limited, but I don't know about sacrificing low. Maybe I wouldn't even need low that much with the 3.4 though... .I use it all the time in my truck now because it has no power.
Any comments?
Thanks

Your wording is a bit off as the term you were looking for is multi mode, but Jim answered your question best. All 4WD vehicles have low range. If they don't, then they won't be badged as such.
To expand on the 4Runners and to keep it in its most simplified terms, the 1999 and 2000 Limiteds added a center diff for AWD use--for both low and high range. That's the only difference.

4WD and AWD aren't the same and the AWD is engaged just by pushing in the button on the side of the 4wd shifter. I do believe the multi mode autos were only available in the Limited models;I wish mine had it since AWD is great on slick surfaces and can't beat the control.
