Well my moms truck has been making noise and Ive started looking into it. I attached a video of what I am dealing with.

1996 V6 SR5 auto tranny
170,000 miles
Rear brakes, shoes, drums, hardware all new
Rear axel seals are not leaking and are original

I am thinking its the driver side rear wheel bearing. I have not delt with wheel bearings before so the noise isnt something I can indentify easily.

I know that wheel bearings are pressed on etc etc, Ive done plenty of research and know whats involved. Im just trying to possitively identify the problem. 30 seconds in is very accurate to the noise.

Any help or ideas from you guys would be great, thanks!

If its louder on one side versus the other I'd say wheel bearing... Sounds like the axle shaft is resonating pretty bad

Assuming this sound was there before the brake job? My 96's right rear wheel bearing sound was a low growl while driving. My rear u-joint was a squawking noise. It's almost disturbingly easy to pull an axle, very little to unbolt/unscrew. Don't forget to catch the diff fluid/plug the brake line.

It's a quick repeating variable sound that seems to repeat faster than the wheel turns. I'd put a white paint mark on the rear wheel, drive and video/sound record the noise to see how many times it repeats per revolution of the tire. If 1:1, then I'd say wheels/brakes. If more than 1:1 then I'd say diff or axle. Maybe bad pinion bearing or seal?
