thebeeler 1994 Pickup Build-Up Thread
I have had this truck since spring 2009. I don't remember the exact mileage on it, somewhere around 150k, it had 40k on a rebuilt engine. The previous owner threw a rod around 115k miles and had an oem block from Toyota put in, or so I was told, that engine slowly lost compression until I cracked the rings. I rolled the truck summer 2010 in New Mexico at 185k miles on the dot. I then drove it back home to Yuma, AZ and spent the next couple months getting it back to better than new. I have some plans for this truck, they may be small and slow going but I wanted to start a build thread. I always enjoy browsing the forums so I thought I would start a build up thread for you all to enjoy, criticize, etc..

I don't have Normal Duallys to compare them to, mine have the diffusion lens on them. The lights put out a decent amount of light considering the size of them.

Noticed my outer cv boot is torn and my water pump is starting to weep. Got new boots, Aisin oil pump, water pump, and fan clutch. Ordered all new OEM TRE's. Going to wait to pick up some Bilstein shocks. Thinking this might also be a good time to throw in a locker and re-gear the front end so it will match the incoming e-locker.

Nice build, I noticed that you have an adjustable cam gear. I have one as well, however, lack the knowledge of what to adjust it to. My short block is stockish with a modified head and cams.

When I first got the truck I noticed it was lacking in power, not that it has much anyways, any revving past 3k rpms made no difference in power. I assumed the cam had gone flat, had that problem in my prerunner before. But when I pulled the valve cover and rotated it to TDC the cam gear was not lined up, it was set way advanced. Which could be from a milled head, I do not know, I have not had the head off this block yet. So the adjustable cam gear was used to set it back to where it should of been, and then tweaked it I think 5degrees retarded to raise the power band a little so it can be more effectively used at freeway speeds. Hope that helps ya out.

Have not had much time to work on the truck lately. I have so many other projects going on it's hard to find the time. Oil pump was starting to get noisy and I had a new one in my parts pile so I put it on as well as a water pump.
The key to making your high mileage engine quiet again. The difference this little gear will make is incredible.
Water pump on, didn't get a pic of the oil pump
Some of the other Toyota's at work

My radiator hoses were looking pretty bloated so I ordered some Trail-Gear silicone hoses from Low Range Offroad. I choose to order from Low Range because they were actually cheaper through them, rather than direct from Trail-Gear. I also picked up a new Japanese made radiator cap. I got all these pieces installed and noticed that my radiator is leaking from the upper tank on the side with inlet, very common place for them to start leaking because a lot of heat is focused in that spot when the thermostat opens. It is only 2 years old which is an average lifespan for a aftermarket radiator. Going to order an aluminum one from Low Range in the coming weeks see if it last any longer.
The fancy stainless hose clamps they come with.
New cap
Another side project. Retrofitting these with some Morimoto Projectors

Still haven't got the projectors done yet, been super busy at work being that it's car show season. But I did manage to pick up some door speakers and a crappy head unit. Tired of just having the 4" dash speakers for the past few months. Also going to be picking up an Alpine PDX-V9 and building a new sub box for behind the seat in the coming weeks.
Focal K2 6.5" component speakers, they are hand made in France.
