ktmracer250's 1992 4Runner build up thread

Hello and Merry Christmas!

I have had my 4 Runner for a while now, and had big plans for it the whole time. However I beleive now would be a good time to post up about it and with all of the 3.4 Swaps on this forum I figure this is a great place for my build up.

Here is the history on this build. My 4Runner is a 4 door, 1992 V6 Automatic. I bought it after selling my first truck, a 1995 toyota pickup that i solid axle swaped, and dual transfer cased. 2 weeks after the purchase, The automatic trans went out. Being driveable even so, I kept driving it, then sold it for half of what I paid for it to a buddy who had planed on replacing the trans with a working one then driving it stock. He then did a slap together job on a manuel swap, and never proceeded to driving the 4Runner. So, at a better time in my life, I bought the 4Runner back for what he had in it. I Parked it on my uncles property, and started to stockpile parts inside of it, My daily driver, my room, and my garage. now that I am getting closer to being complete on my parts gathering, I will post my plans and hopefully have the time to share about my jorney.

So, on to the plans. Im, I guess you could say for lack of a better word. Anal.

I want everything new on this 4Runner and have almost gotten my way. Except for the fact that the ARBs I want just went up in price, and I wont be able to afford them.

My plans-
Solid axle swap 5" springs all around with the leaf spring conversion in the rear.
Trail Gear axle housings Front and rear.
Hipinion 5.29 open Thirdmember Brand new (Except the open Diff)
V6 5.29 open thirdmember (New gears and bearings havent decided on the housing yet but used open diff again..)
Cromoly axles in the rear New bearings and bearing pockets
Rear disc brake kit
Trail gear 30spline axles for the front TG axle housing with a spare shortside 30 spline shaft
6Stud Knuckles and histeer arms
ARP Magnum studs on the steering arm side and brand new factory toyota Knuckle studs on the bearing cap side
Good condition spindles and a spindle stud kit
Good condition hub bodies
Brand new Factory toyota Manuel locking hubs

and for the drive train...
Dual transfer case's
V6 to 4cyl t-case adapter
23 spline 2.28 input shaft
23 spline dual transfer case adapter
23 spline 4.70 Gear set
all being of the Trail Gear brand.
a 3.0 version R150F Transmission
and a 1997 Toyota 3.4 5VZE engine.. Being picked up on Xmas...
the mileage is a little high but the price was right and I get the whole 4runner so if anyone needs any 1997 2wd 4Runner parts.... LET ME KNOW!!!
So those are the plans, This truck is your basic complete "Swap truck" axle swap, Engine Swap, Tranny swap, T-case swap, and even rear leaf spring swap.. Its been a Huge project but when its done, It should be worth it..

And for armor
I will be using a trail gear front tube bumper
Trail gear rear tube bumper
Trail gear rock sliders

I have not decided on tires and wheels at the moment they are the next expencive thing on my list to buy so they will be waiting...

Have a great night and please let me know what you think and or any tips!!!! MERRY XMAS!!

On Christmas day I Picked up the donor 4Runner that holds the future motor for my 1992 4Runner. As I said before the mileage is a little high but I was able to start it again and she runs smooth, so next weekand will be all about checking compression in all cylinders, Im anxious to find out how they are... Here are some pictures of how the donor sits now..

My Donor is an automatic, Yet the truck it is going into is a Manuel.. Anyone have a 1996 Tacoma or 4Runner harness and computer for a manuel truck?? Or where could I find one? I will be calling the general junkyards tomorrow when they are open.

I started building my axle today, got my hipinion differantial installed into the trail gear axle and installed the trunion bearing races. I also installed ARP studs into my 6stud knuckles, installed the spindle studs, and have my 30spline birfields ready to be greased up and put in, so tomorrow I will be able to get it all ready and take some pictures!

Ok, Despite the lack of response to my build up thread... I decided to post up that I have made great progress with the thanks of a fellow swapper on this thread who i will not disclose, that did the wireing and finish work on my 3.4 swap.. I will how ever say that he did such a great job, that other than some minor stuff that wasnt from the work he did, It passed in 2 shots. Would have passed in one but it had a leak and he didnt like the exaust pointing at the gas tank.. but now that its passed the reff I can swap trannys and add my dual tcase setup, and also move the exhaust away from my gas tank all together. But she is solid axle swaped and running and its a blast!!! Here is a pic of the 3.4 in the truck before it was legal. and ill get a pic of it lifted and swapped later.
