yotarob2005 maybe that was me quite a while ago complaining about a stainless steel bolt kit I had bought for mine during my rebuild that half the bolts were actually wrong and I had to mix and match some to get all of them to fit properly and ended up reusing some of mine.

Couple pics from today. I was just too greasy to keep picking up the camera every step. Sorry.

Nice work man!!
I agree about scraping the gasket material off the block. That was THEE biggest PITA when I did my timing chain.
Things look great keep up the good work!

Pics after todays adventure. My garage is totaled.
Giant mess. I'm not the "put it back as soon as Im done with it kinda guy". Enjoy my disaster. Once I get her going tomorrow...I'll back her out...clean all the tools up and use my oreck scrubber and douche the floor.

Ignore my one accel spark plug wire...I killed one of the ORIGINAL wires..lol. A new set is in the very near future...

Hey...we should go together. Maybe even a swing by taylors too. You could come out and we could take my E350 extended super duty. Lot's of room.

It's alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adjusted the valves...popped the valve cover on
Filled with oil and coolant. Put the battey in.

Fired right up. Quiet as a mouse. I am pleased.
Brought her to temp...topped off coolant.

So quiet...I can hear a small exhaust leak...lol

So Im basking in my glory.

Drove her around the neighborhood runs great.
This is without even doing the final timing check.
Yes...Im that good. LOL

Next is a full tune up...plugs, wires, cap, rotor,

Idles a wee low..but Im sure it's timing may be a little retarded...we will see.

Now I have I huge disaster to clean up in the garage.

So far...it seems my cam/rocker swap didnt disturb the head gasket....no leaks so far.

So quiet I can hear the fan whir when I rev it.

HOORAY!!

Yes, I did swap em out.

Garage is cleaned up. Set final timing. Runs as well or better than the 87. Swapped the original cluster back in to make sure I had real temp readings.

I somehow lost the radiator cap....so I swiped the 87's cap...drove the 88 to the car wash to spray all the years of oil and crap of the bottom of the motor and front suspension. Blasted right off.
This way I can keep an eye out for leaks.

Has not dripped a drop of anything...and it did before...bigtime.

Next project will be body work.

Here is a vid for your viewing pleasure.

Please ignore my mess of plug wires and such...
they will be swapped with some new ones soon.

I'm relieved to say the least. The whole leaving the head on while swapping the cam/rocker assembly was a gamble.

And thank you all and Yotatech. Of course I'd probably never of gotten these 2 first gens if it wasnt for you guys....so I guess it's all your fault.

I think Imma take her for another ride. Venture out a little further...maybe hit the highway.

Back from 1/2 hour highway trip. Runs pretty good. Cant wait to tune it up. Now the "machine gun rocker beating the cam to death" noise is gone...Im hearing other stuff...small exhaust leak..a wee bit of trans bearing noise..nothing major.

So far Im into it for $900 including purchase price.

I realized the tires are like new...new muffler...thats dumped. No tailpipe.

I really had some blinders on...didnt pay attention to anything but the terrible noise it made.

Still no leaks...

Just took her to run an estimate for a huge custom bathroom. Customer I have done a lot of work for....who used to be into toyotas...so I wasn't embarrassed to drive it over there. About a 60 mile round trip. Ran like a champ. Looks like she's gonna hold together. Very peppy.

Guess Ill start my plans/research on body panels and body work. I've decided to go with the original color, just to make it easier and stay consistent as far as door jams/under hood etc.

so which one is going to be the wheeling rig and which one for daily driving? My vote is for tye metalic tangerine rig. It will stick out in the woods better! By the way you wouldn't want a 31x10.50 spare bfgoodrich km1 mudterrain would you? it's brand new with one plug and holds air perfectly. Was my old spare until i bumped up to 33's. Still on the toyota rim.

Uh...free tire....yes. I have one oddball tire on the orange runner now...that victor guy has the other...it was on the spare of the 93 I sold...he was supposed to get it back to me...

it's yours if you want it. i have way too many tires laying around the shop and i'd rather give it to another toyota owner rather than sell it to some one. Good karma type thing you know. It's yours under one condition..... we need to go wheeling soon! If you haven't made it out to speedway yet i wouldn't bother that 4runner wads picked pretty clean and in bad shape. I go out there once every month so i'll keep you posted if there's any other runners or trucks worth checking out.

Your a pretty good guy...

Must be the Toyota in ya.

I don't know if my runners are ready or wheeling yet...the orange one needs a lift and lockers.

Looks like I need a rear main seal on the 88.
She's pretty oily in the bellhousing area.

Im gonna chill on getting greasy today...and I got to get back to doing some actual work tomorrow...and have some big jobs coming up.

So Imma lay on my butt the rest of the day...lol
