bigt's 1987 Pickup Build-Up Thread

ok

im purchasing this 1987 pickup because thins havent been going well on my 1994 trail rig 4runner..

I always wanted a pickup and being a 87 it no longer will need etest..

owner said they put a good engine in it but carb need adjust or rebuild... also power steering was getting hot so they disconnected it...

the bed was chopped and just metal screwed in place... im going to weld and fix the lights...
gonna need atleast 2 fenders and paint job.. he said there was a runner top cut to fit in the back but it looks junky.... comes with a extra rad and a good set of 32 michelins a/t

has a welded rear..

really muddy doesnt look too rusty for its age.. a normal 87 pickup would already be scraped because of rust here and they are extemly rare to see...

previous owner had it on 35s no rub on ifs

im planing on getting it saftey and plated... only thing i can see after lights and bed and body work .. would be e brake but i think its mostly there..

ill talk more in a bit now for some pickies!

its looks rough but ive always wanted a pickup and plan on taking the knowledge if learned on my 2 4runners to make this one relible truck... i dont care if it has dents.. aslong as she is relible

dialup might wanna turn around!

wtf are asco hubs??? has asins on the front

ok so im going to get the tires pumped up and try and get it going.. it has been sitting since febuary....i have a new battery.. im going to check the grounds and try and find out where all this oil and stuff is coming from... there is only 1 belt and the altenator looks different than my 22res....

any help would be good

im not paying much for this truck but i want to treat it good... and get it plated before i start getting ready for

4.10 fj 62 front axle.. the back might have enough lift cause it fit 35s no problem before and thats the size tire im aiming for... well see lots of time and work ahead of me thats for sure!!!

yotatech im gonna be searching and asking questions like crazy!!!!
so excited to have a PICKUP!!!!
heres a pick of it before on 35s!

Asco = Aisin

Looks like a lot of booty fab by the PO you are going to have to deal with in your build. That engine is awful oily for one that was rebuilt.

Good luck and let me know if you need any parts...cause I bet you are!

yes..well if i have issues with this 22r.. i know where to get a 22re for free with a new clutch lol

also i will be needing some parts i bet...

i know you might be thinking im crazy but its really dirty under there but really solid...

the whoe engine bay was por15 before the engine went in... im going to try and talk to the last 2 owners cause they are in my 4x4 club and find out more about the engine and stuff... im looking forward to learning something simpler than my 22re.. i want a truck that i know how to fix back to front.. even if i ditch the bed and go flat bed im still ahead...

Cool

I wonder if there's a button for putting allan to sleep?

anyhow, yeah that block's dirty for just being rebuilt. that has to be 30000+ of bad leaking valve cover gasket.
anyhow, 500 ain't bad for a project I suppose.
good luck?

yea the plan was to get it good enough for saftey or get a scorched one then switch to propane...

i dont think im seeing how much work is there like you guys are....

to mee its just fix the bed and wiring... get some new fenders.. put the carb back on and fix grounds....

but i have yotatech on my side i should be alright.. it was a daily drive up until last november then the engine was swapped wheeled a few times and parked in feb saying it needed carb work.. there are 2 carbs... no cv boots are torn shocks and springs are good doors close fine ...most of the ebrake cables are there...

would it be a good idea to use power steering from my 94 ifs 4runner?? this power steering looks like a different setup..

I see a lot of work. I wouldn't have an engine so soaked with oil so that'd get fixed right off. You see an experience. That's cool and I can appreciate it.

you should be able to swap all the PS components over- pump, steering box, (crank pulley?), hoses and cooler and call it done.

nice...plan was just to get it running to pass saftey then switch to propane some im def going to clean the engine and see if i can see where the oil is coming from.. i have already msged the person you put it in cause it is killing me lol!
i have always wanted a pickup.. and if i use a few parts of the trail rig on my nice blue dd i could sell it for top dollar...

good thing is i god 3 trucks with almost all the same setups 5 spd 2 22re and 1 22r all 4.10 ifs.. for the price ill take the loss if need be..

way i see it is a pickup already has leafs so a solid front swap would be easier... it already bobbed for a good depature and it has a 22r which i can propane real easy... so its a good buggy project if anything... but i want it plated first! without getting a back door unless i have no choice

ok i wanna make a checklist... in order to try and crank a carb engine
check all the grunds.. there is 2 coming form the battery and one to the engine block.. there is only 1 belt on the engine that should be the only one i need to run just the engine..

does the 22re alt work on the 22r it looks different...

basicially before i start on the body work i want to clean it up and get it running or rebuild if i need it myself... I WANT TO DO THIS RIGHT! i want a relible daily driver truck... i have 3 trucks to pull parts from
and want a pickup truck, with no etest and get tje better gas milage cuz gen2 runners r too heavy!
ANYONE IN ONTARIO NEED A 22RE or 4runner parts ill prolly soon be selling something!

and since the 'cel' with a lift would have nearly no overhang front or rear... why not?
