BB7110's 1987 4Runner Build Thread
Hi YT,
I wanted to share a few mods that I've done, so starting a build thread seemed smart.
The Rig:
1987 4Runner SR5
22RE Auto 4x4
31x10.5 Pro Comps
I bought the truck for $900 with a bad flex plate. That was a fun job... So far to make it a nice daily I have replaced: Flex plate, bellhousing (I dropped the trans ) sway bar bushings and drop links, cap/rotor/plug/wires, cleaned intake plenum and replaced with new gaskets, pitman arm, idler arm, rear Ubolts, driv. side window regulator, and a few other parts. I'm loving the simplicity in sourcing parts! So far it's been an awesome truck, but I'm still not used to how pitifully slow it is.
So here are some pics!
Trailering it back to the shop:
Bad flexplate: HOW DO YOU DO THIS!?
First time with the top off!
Epic failure of the previous owner's suspension lift... (No locator bolts thru leaf springs, shoddy pinon blocks, wrongs U bolts, ETC.) See thread for more info:

So for my first real set of mods to the truck, I wanted a nice sound system. I do a lot of miles in this truck, and it didn't really have a stereo to begin with. Only issue was, in the summer the top would be off. There are a lot of smash and grabs in my area so I figured out a system to protect my investment. Taking ideas from Tuffy Products, I built an armrest (at the right height!!!!) and a stereo head unit surround to protect my crap. It is all 16 ga hot rolled steel plate, and will someday get painted and coated in a nice soft material. For now, it is hard, sharp, and rusting. Lol. They are keyed the same and there is a big bulky cover that slips over the stereo as you can see in the pictures. My current complaints are how sharp everything is, how a few things rattle, and how there is no light in the armrest. All those will be addressed...Eventually...
The sound system consists of:
Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X69 HU
Sony XS-GTX1620S 6-1/2"/6-3/4" 2-way Component speakers (sep tweeter, cross over, and woofer
10" Kicker Sub
Sound Ordnance M1350 210W Monoblock
JVC KS-AX4302 amp for the Sony XPlodes
It sounds AWESOME. I'm still trying to figure out how to conceal the sub and the monoblock inside the wall of the bed, but that is a long-term goal.

Don't mind all the temporary wiring. That is mostly me making up for the last owner's fail. The box is getting a 12v three way splitter with a USB power source and some LED lighting. I am also having a friend output on his flowjet a panel to go between the armrest vault and the shifter to hold a big Nalgene water bottle, two smaller cup holders, the factory switches, and a little storage spot.
The walls of the stereo surround go back up into the dash, and there is no way to remove the deal with the front on and the dash in place. It was almost impossible to get it in with everything removed. Lol.
Future Mods:
Real bumpers! No more of this Smitty built stuff...
Better lighting EVERYWHERE.
Better seats.
MORE POWER!
SAS?
Suggestions, comments, complaints, post 'em up! I'd love some fresh ideas.
