85gijunk4x4's new 1988 toyota

so i picked it up today, woke up @ 6am, drove for 5 hours, picked it up, drove for another 6 hours, spent 200 on gas and about 100 on tolls...

so anyway, here she is, 1988 yota 4x4, 3vz with a 5spd!! her name is angus....i was gonna buy an angus steer with the 300 but i couldnt pass this deal up. LOL

but anyway, i paid $300 for it, figured it was some peice of crap, but when i saw it today man was i wrong. i really like this truck, it runs great, it drives great, it shifts great, and theres really not any rust. heres the only pics i have for now. more to come soon!!

it has 35's wich are pretty much worn away, but they dont bother me right now. im really digging the alluminum bed though, whoever made it designed it good, it looks sick!! the interior looks like its brand new, its just dirty for now because it was used on the farm. but anyway the 3.0 leaks like crazy, ive got afew gaskets to replace, but it runs great, and i cant beleive the power, that truck hauls butt!!

the only rust thats pretty bad is the pic i have above, the rest is just surface rust etc.

but hell, im happy with it, best $300 ive ever spent

im pretty sure its regeared, idk to what though...it will spin all 4 (or 2 i should say) in 4hi on pavement from a rolling start. the tires rub, but ive just got used to not turning to sharp, the windows fell off the track but thats not a big deal to me, the exhaust rusted away, but the muffler is still there so its not like its loud or anything.

Your lucky, good god is that a deal. I bet money it's regeared, in 2hi I have to start on dirt to spin on pavement with stock gears. I doubt the v6 is that strong compared to the 22RE.

a) How bad does it rub with 35s and no lift

b) PLEASE yank that lower valance off!

c) Try not to let it end up like your last one. I wouldn't wish that fate on any yota!

its rubs pretty bad, but not bad really, sharp turns it will rub pretty bad, but just mostly straight driving you would never notice untill you hit a huge bump, youll hear it just graze the bottom of the fender

valance is coming off tomorrow LOL

my last one was beaten to hell for the past 10 years so thats why it looks like it does this one is my baby though, im not gonna beat it or anything

yeah i was quite anxious to try out the 3vz, because ive heard so many bad things about it, but it seems to be loaded with power, i can get up and go if i put it to the floor, it'll throw you back in the seat....but ive never never hit 5th gear yet, so im kinda worried it might be overgeared

you know, since i was buying sight-unseen, i was planning on it being a peice of crap, i was gonna pull off the 35's, pull of the panels, pull of the tranny and part it out. but since i didnt know what to expect, i didnt really make plans for it. for now im gonna take care of the little things (windows, lights, rust, exhaust etc.), and then go from there. im probably gonna get wheel spacers so the 35's dont rub, rattle can it camo, im thinking arb lockers front and back, bumpers, sliders, and see how i like the end result.

woww swimmer, 400 miles was long enough for me

just outta curiousity, how did you get it home? i wouldve drove mine home if i had the title, but since i didnt i had to trailer it. a 4,000lb truck that barely fit on the trailer + high center of gravity + winding, hilly mountain roads + a trailer that had no brakes + an f150 that barely had brakes= an extremely nerve racking ride home <<(i dont really understand what that smiley is doing??)

the story that the guy gave me was that it was originally his buddies truck, then his buddy had problems with his wife and became and alcaholic etc. so his wife kicked him out, he needed money, and the truck had to go. he lost the title, and since the guy i bought it from was using it as a farm truck he figured he wouldnt waste the $50 to get a duplicate title. he told me to look the guy up and call him saying i would give him a $50 dollar check (or paypal etc.) if he would mail be a signed duplicate title in return but there are no garuntee's.
