YotaInSC 1984 4unner build-up
First off, I am still green to this so bare with me ! I have been wanting a 1st gen 4runner for a while now so about two weeks ago I sold my single cab '93 4wd pickup. Last week I caught wind of a '84 4runner that a guy was willing to sell. I called him and requested a few pics, so he sent some through email. When searching for a 4runner, I wanted one that was semi built already because I was gonna be on a budget having a 2 month old and the wife taking a year off of work.
The guy was asking $4,000 for the 4runner, I had him down to $3500 without laying eyes on it. He informed me of some minor things that were wrong with it: oil leak from valve cover, coolant leak from raditor and front axle was leaking oil.
This past tuesday me and a buddy went and checked it out. One of the first things I noticed was how straight the body was. The rust was mostly surface under the taillights with penny size hole under the passenger side. Went ahead and hopped in her and took off down the road. I went about 5 or 6 miles at 60mph and she never missed a beat. Found a gravel road on the way back to test out the 4wd, which tested out fine. While heading back to the POs house, I went from third to fourth and the gear shifter twisted and I had trouble getting it to go into fourth. Made it back to his house and unbolted the shifter seating (correct name) and noticed the the bushings down in there were severly worn, should be a simple fix.
Mods already done by PO:
30k on rebuilt 22r
5:29s front and rear
Detroits front and rear
63" chevies and blocks in rear (unsure about front, once again I'm still green)
ARB front bumper with warn winch
35x12.50x15 BFG km2s with 60-70% tread left
Included with purchase:
Soft-topper soft top
Full size spare
Extra tailgate with glass (original still working fine)
some odd and end trim for interior
I sold the '93 pickup for $5200 bone stock, I ended up walking away with the keys and title for the 4runner for $2600 after more haggling with the PO. I honestly feel like I got a darn good deal.
Plans for now (bring on the advice and reccomendations!)
replace valve cover gasket
new radiator and hoses
fresh tune up-plugs, wires, etc...
Fix rust and paint white (in process)
Paint hard top back black
Fix int as I go and find parts
sell alloys and get black steelies
addicted-offroad front bumper (ARB sold to a good friend)
would like to get another 2" of lift without doing a BL (reccomendations needed)
Plans for future as funds allow:
EFI swap
......
This will be a DD/hunting/mild off-roading rig. So I'd like to have a comfortable ride while being capable off-road. Once again guys, ANY advice and recommendations would be much apprecitated. I'll be posting more pics soon. Currently it is in a buddy's shopped being prepped for paint.
This will be a slow process as most of the things will be done by myself and I'm still learning!

When the fender flares were removed we found some behind the back drivers side one. It's gonna be cut out and replaced with sheet metal.
While the truck has been in the body shop I've managed to round up some parts from a junk yard. I've gotten an sr5 cluster (I've already switched out the LEDs to white), a dash pad with only one crack vs mine with multiple cracks, quartz clock, extra tailgate with glass and several other odd and end trim pieces. I've also ordered a new stock bumper and grill (which is on back order) and some extended shackles.
Hopefully body work and paint will be finished by the end of the week and more pics to come.

Looking forward to your build. That is a great looking runner you have. Finding a dashpad with only one crack in it is a rare find. Sounds like you are making some quick work with your new toy. Looking good.

You can inline the attachments, "Copy short cut" on the attachment list links and paste them into the post text area with IMG tags or use the "Insert image" icon in the editor.
Personally I prefer images hosted on yotatech's domain instead of offsite links, they remain viewable under almost all circumstances But you'll run out of attachments really quick if you post all your pictures that way. I use the yotatech hosted photo albums but it has a smaller than avg' size limit 100kb and 800x600.
