Well, I'm about halfway through my deployment so I have started looking at what I will purchase when I return. Some advice from the 'saltier' crowd would be appreciated!
I want to go with an OME lift for the suspension, anyone recommend the heavy vs the medium suspension? Will I need new shackles or anything else to go along with the lift?
4.88:1 Axle ratio from Marlin Crawler, will be getting 33/10.50/15 tires...
Aussie Locker in the rear, this will be a trail rig primarily so I'm not concerned with it being selectable. I want to go with a LSD in the front though to maintain some traction, but not be limited on steering.
Am still undecided on the carb. I keep reading on the website, some people swear by the weber, some people swear on remaining with the Aisin carb...Most likely I will go with the Weber as I want to get rid of most of the vacuum lines.

Once you start adding bigger tires, more weight with armor and more wind resistance with all the lift its going to make that motor work hard.
Not to mention, if you ever decide you'd like to step it up to 35's you'll have the gearing to do so.
The difference between 4.88's and 5.29's is around 250 RPM's. The little R engines LOVE the higher revs and their torque curves will prove it.
I ran 5.29's and 33's on my 99 2.7L Tacoma. Loved that setup.
Good luck with it. Looks like a nice start. Thanks for serving!
