83txyota 1983 truck crawler build
This is my second 83 Toyota truck I have had in the past 3 years, unfortunately I never started a build thread for the first. I regret getting rid of the first one I had so I had been on the hunt for another project for myself and my 2 little girls. I was looking into buying them a big go kart but convinced the wife to buy them a real off road toy for them to learn to drive. So this is what I'm starting with hope you all like it.

Plans for this truck project are:
1. Most important, build good safe roll cage for kids
2. Either 35s or 37s
3. Dual cases
4. 5.29 gears
5. Keep it as low as possible
6. Paint job
7. Drive it til the motor blows up and motor swap (still undecided)
Will post more pics soon as I start to clean interior and get it running good.

Made some progress on the truck today. Removed the ugly flat bed that was on the truck, luckily my buddy had his crane and it made it a lot easier to remove the bed.
I also got the filthy interior cleaned up and degreased. I removed the ugly and torn factory buckets.
Then I installed these seats out of a Honda Civic I parted out.
Hopefully start painting it yellow tomorrow, that's what the kiddos decided on. Not gna spend time sanding since it's just going to be a rock buggy.

I'm actually going to cut the back of the cab out and build an in cab cage coming out to the back so I can have a 4 seat truggy. Need to make sure the kiddos are safe in the back. I'm also doing a 4 link setup in the rear that's going to be tied into the cage. Just need to move to this new house so I can start spending some money on this rig. Like I said this rig is mainly for my kids to learn to drive, but also for me...

Got both Honda seats in my truck today, just had to drill 3 holes for each seat. Notice the clean cluster,u can actually see the guages now
And I also spray painted the truck bright yellow since it what my girls wanted. They want it to be a yellow and black color scheme. Don't laugh about the over spray, windshield is going to be cleaned good after paint job is dry.

Thanks, i like your truck as well. I wish mine had a bed, but at the same time I'm glad it doesn't because then i wouldn't want to make it a 4 seat buggy. I'm planning on getting those hockey stick stripes back on there in black. I didn't bother sanding or scraping anything off since i hope to get a lot of body damage once I'm done building it. And it makes it a lot easier to tape off the yellow to spray the hockey sticks black

Your gauges cleaned up nice, I wish mine was a SR5, I'd like having a factory tach. I've had three 83' pickups, one 85' and my 86' 4runner, and non of them have been SR5's, lol. I think its cool that your girls are involved in your build, I hope I have enough influence on my kids that they're interested in yota's when they're old enough to start learning to drive. Look forward to seeing some more progress!
