Years of neglect and a leaky battery will do this...
I found the battery tray after tripping over it on the ground at the junkyard. I have no idea what it's from, but it fit after I cut off some of the mounting brackets. The piece of metal under it is some 1/4" steel scrap I bought at the hardware store for $1.50.
It's any ugly fix, but better than a bungee cord and a 2x4. I really wish I had taken a picture of the fine example of hillbilly fabrication it before I tore it out.

I can only imagine what kind of redneck engineering it had going on before you fixed it.

Definitely a bit louder, especially at 55 with the mud tires.
I primed and painted the floor today with some Rustoleum "Professional" spray paint. The primer went down smooth, but the flat black looks awful. It looks like it turned into sand as soon as it hit the surface, and I can just brush it away with my hand. I've used Rustoleum for years, and I've never had this problem. The surface was immaculate. Tack cloth, wax/grease remover, tack cloth again. The temperature/humidity was within the recommended range.
I'm sanding all the rough spots down tomorrow, and repainting it with brush on Rustoleum flat black.

I have also used Rustoleum for years and never had that issue.
Were you using the Stops Rust line? That stuff is great.
Did you mask all of the interior panels and stuff off before spraying or did you just block the close areas as you sprayed?

If you don't mind me suggesting something...I really like the look of the "roll on bed liner". I have seen quite a few here like this and I have done it to my runner. I really like it.
