If you are willing to separate I'd take the 4.56 gearset if it's a V6 one...

I would double check that info, i just replaced mine with a stock third that blew up and it was a non-locked rear with 4.11's and it was almost 1200 from the stealer!!

well, i could be off, but i had always been told (by the dealership, so yeah, FWIW right?) Anyway, the carrier assembly is the innards, still need to buy a housing. Most of the new ones i've seen have been 950, with 4.10. usually 1200 for something else. Someone post a link, and we can check it out.

So yeah, checked out what the site posted above had listed, and this is how i look at it (prices are the second number)

Carrier assy, tacoma, 4wd, w/differential lock 96-04 $1,217.73 $876.77

Carrier, tacoma, 4wd, w/differential lock 96-04 $363.55 $261.76

So total would be: 1138.53 plus shipping.

I don't see why you would need a carrier and carrier assy to make up a 3rd member. If that total price is right I think this guy is pretty reasonable on his asking prices, especially if he isn't too firm, give him a break.

Well, i'm not sure, so don't quote me, but from everything i've heard, the carrier is the actual housing, and the carrier assy is the actual meat and bones. Point being, they figure most people will break one or the other, and aren't selling these parts to be retrofit into a non elocker housing. When retrofitting, you'd need both, becasue you cannot reuse your stock third member housing, you have to get the elocker thirdmember housing.

On another note, Oleg, the guy selling this stuff, is a great guy, and has a wonderful business. He is top notch to deal with, and you will not be dissapointed buying any of this stuff. You'll be very impressed with his customer service.

I'm not bashing anybody. The price has gone up $100 bucks at 1st toyota. used to be $750ish for the complete 3rd. Now its 876. Personally I'd buy the new one for the little extra money.

Can you clarify then, just for future reference, that the Carrier assy is indeed the housing and the differentail, and not just the differential. I would just like to know for my own knowledge. Thanks

Just to clarify some questions. This is the original Toyota factory differentional with original gears and actuator and the asking price is a little bit negotiable. And for that money you have not auto market, but original Toyota part. Price drop is 600 for 4.11 and 650 for 4.56. Thank you,
Oleg
