A good friend of mine has a sweeeeeet 96 Land Cruiser, and just recently put new tires on it. He got about 65K out of the old LTX's, and the guy at the tire shop told him he could have got about 5-10K MORE out of them if he had followed the Toyota recommended tire pressure on the door plate instead of the tire manufaturer's standard 35 psi. My 4Runner has 29 psi printed on the door plate.

What to do????

Is there any truth to this???

The 29 PSI on the Door plate is only good for the stock tires....if that.

What size and brand tire do you have on your Runner????

What size tire did you friend have on the Cruiser??? I think 275/70/16 are stock on the cruiser and about 35 PSI would be correct for a Michelin LTX M/S. Was he running less than 35 PSI ???

I'm not sure what tire size or pressure he was using on the Cruiser.

I have Michelin Cross Terrains in a P265/70/16. I just want to be sure that I can beat the 70K mile warranty. They are great tires, and I'd love to see them go 80k+

I would run between 32-34 PSI in your 265/70/16 tires. If they are underinflated the outside edges will wear out quickly. On my 265/70/16 stock Dunlops I was running 34 PSI in front and 32 in the rear.

I would recommend following the Toyota specs. My 99 with the 265-70-16 is 32 psi F/R. Remember that you should be checking the air pressure when the tires are COLD. If you check the tire pressure when the tires are warm, I would make sure they are around 35 psi. I have noticed that if I fill them at 32 cold and drive on them for about 15 minutes and check them , they are at 35.
