Spare tire question

So I am going camping soon which is a 3 hour trip flat lands to lake Mac in Nebraska, doing all the normal checks on the ride and I decided to drop the spare just to check it. The truck is new to me so I never really looked at it. Finally got the rust to break free and the tire is I guess ok a tad dry rotted but still had almost full pressure and seems road worthy to get me where I need to go. So, is a little dry rot acceptable for a spare? I mean I have always had a donut that is with the car but never a full size spare which is usually in good shape but funds are tight and you know. Anyway how many of you peeps have a spare that's been sitting under there for years and have faith in it.

Thanks, Disco.

Oh and by dry rotted I mean hairline cracks not the full on splits if that makes sense.

Don't go by how the tire looks, go by how old it is. There should be a date that tells what month and year it was made. I would say anything over 6 years old needs to be replaced.

i just went through this on my spare. My tire looked ok, but when I went to fill it up, it made the cracks look worse. So I decided to get a new (used) one. Discount tire sold me a tire for 50 bucks and was barley used. For that price, it's piece of mind.

What if I don't wanna look at the date I'm scared) na I will check it tonight and see how old that thing is I'm guessing older than 6 but getting a used one sounds like a good idea.
