Michelin Cross Terrain Tires
I am ready to buy a set of tires for my '99 Limited which sees 99% of its time on the road.
Does anyone have any experience with Michelin Cross Terrain tires? I currently have Michelin LT's and they are great tires. The Cross Terrains are newer, are they any better?

These are awesome tires. I have them on my wifes eplorer. They stop really well in wet weather but will not last quite as long as the LT's. They are a bit quieter in my opinion. I would reccomend them to anyone who might be looking for a great road tire.

Having had both, I like both but prefer the LTX M/S a little better performance-wise, also since they've redone the sidewall on the Xterrains. I do think the LTX M/S tend to grab more gravel to throw around.

On the 16" version the sidewall's more rounded at the tread blocks than it used to be. I tried to find the style I had but Michelin says they don't make it anymore. Probably doesn't make a ton of difference, I just don't like the look.

this is a wonderful tire. One of Michelins best tires IMO.
My dad has them on his Sequoia and he loves them. He was riding on the factory dunlops which he hated. You can definately tell the difference in ride quality.
I think they both have the same amount of sidewall plies, but you wont go wrong with either the Cross-Terrains nor the LTX MS.
I had the LTX MS on my 4runner and loved them.
IIRC also, the X-terrain is specifically made for SUV's.
Hit up costco and get 60 bucks back!

Michelin Cross Terrain
I have them on my '98 and love them. They are great on wet roads, and very quiet. However, I almost got stuck with them while driving up a steep hill covered with tall grass and while it was snowing (1" on the ground)...but would any tire not slip in those conditions? Check out tire rack's high marks for the tire.

I have them right now. These were the tires that were mounted when I bought the Runner last January.
Mine are 100% bald, so no recomendations for ya. They seemed like great tires while they still had tread on them, though not the best in the mud. . .

After 2 years and 45,000 miles on them here's my opinion.
Great tire on the road, quiet, great handling, good gas mileage (summer 19 mpg).
Lousy tire on icy roads, very slippery, I'm not sure the MS would do better.

105k on them (first set went to 75k). Really like the ride, the quiet and the grip in dry and wet BUT (and its a huge caveat for those who live in or go to snow) - they SUCK SUCK SUCK in the snow. SUCK. I deal with it 10 days a year up in the sierras, but if I lived in snow i certainly wouldn't run these.
