My truck is just like bojangles, i have 33s now and am happy with them dont plan on going bigger. I guess i have stock gears not sure but they pull the 33s okay but i think the 4.88 would pull that much better. The main thing im wondering is is that all there is sling the new gears in the rear n go, r do you have to regear the front diff to the same gears or regear the tcase r anything. lol i have no clue, im trying to work on this truck more and more so i can learn about it.

I run 4:88s with 31" or 33" tires. 4:88s with 33" brings your RPM range almost back to stock so you should not see a MPG change. If you run 31" you will see a slight decrease in MPG due to running slightly higher RPM at the same speed but faster accelleration.

Okay so ive been looking into ring and pinion sets in 4.88s, i guess by set it means a set for one diff? Soo stock 4.10 is running less rpm than the 4.88s with 33 inch tires, but with the 4.88s im guessing it wouldnt half to struggle so bad to pull the tires? I wonder how much of a noticable difference it will pull in 4x4

You need to have the same gear ratios in the front and rear differentials on a 4x4 (2 Sets). The RPM range on a stock 4:10 with factory tires and a 4:88 with 33" tires is within about 200-300 RPM of each other therefore your truck should drive about the same as stock with the 4:88s and 33" tires installed.

5.29's.
Hands down.
I have 33's on my tacoma and I'm running 5.29s. (Build thread in sig)
I get 16-17 City and 21 on the highway.
Your RPM's are going to be a tad high but you'll need the power to turn the large heavy tires in 5th gear. Especially with an engine that puts out what, 90 to the wheels...
Besides, no way your going to want 4.88's with 35's
You don't want to have to pay for the regearing twice, do you?

The purpose of changing gear ratios on a Toyota 4x4 truck is to maintain as close as possible the stock engine RPM operating power range, being able to run larger wheels / tires and have the truck drive (power) like it was originally designed. Stock tires 4:10, 31" 4:56, 33" 4:88, 35" 5.29 and so on. In each case, the RPM Engine operating range is close to the stock operating range (base line 60 MPH). You can modify the engine and change the engine RPM operating power range and thus use alternate gear ratios, wheel and tire size combinations.

I have stock 4.56 gears in my 1990 auto 4runner, I'm gonna be running 33x12.5's. Would changing to 4.88's be worth it? or should I just keep my current gears?

I assume you have a V6 motor. I am not familiar with the power curves of the V6. I would purchase and install the 33" tires and wheels then drive it. If you feel that you have lost power from the change then do your research and re-gear. I read somewhere that the V6 motor can use 4:56 gears when using 33" tires because of its power curve. In all cases, do your research before spending any money.

That will show you the 7.5" and 8" r/p sets. Probably the best bet would be to contact Wabbit (http://www.wabfab.org/) and ask him. I believe he sells the r/p sets on his site.
I'm going with 5.29s on my rig before I move since my freaking 285's have killed my acceleration and made 5th gear useless to me unless I'm on a down hill run, with a tail wind and drafting an 18 wheeler..... at night.
Good luck with your gears and selection.
