well after finally getting the buick tuned in good and most the bugs run out of it i am pulling the motor and installing a TBI 4.3....main reason is money, got offered 800 bucks for the buick and also given a free 4.3 long block and traded a muffler for a running driving 91 astro van!! so in the next three weeks i have to swap a motor figure out a wiring harness and swap in one tons!! should be fun!!! man some times my cheapness amazes even myself but if you add the 800 to my build cost, and the 300 i am getting for the toy axles it puts me at 350 dollars overall cost for the one tons, so i cant complain just lots of work!!

What are you going to do for the trans/transfer? New motor mounts too? Sounds like a lot of work, and money.

i am going to run the w56 for now cause my buick adapter has the GM bolt holes on it too, but i am going to keep the 700r4 it has in the astro van incase i grenade the manual and then swap that in when i get her all built up so the wife can wheel too.

as for money i am getting the van and a motor for basically 40 bucks and sold the buick for 800 so i am sitting pretty money wise

oh and i used the toyota motor mounts on the buick and they rock like a mother so i would have to redo them soon anyways so thgis time i am going to use the chevy mounts and just fab them up onto my frame, pretty simple to do.

threads a little old..but i'm very rarely on this board.

but, love the swap as i'm a huge buick fan
oh, and if you get bored with the 225 v6 any newer buick v6(3.8/4.1.not 3800 series)
and any sbb will bolt right into its place(300,340,350)
buick 350 is dirt cheap too..im tempted to drop one in instead of the chvy 4.3....just need to measure and hope it isnt too wide

oh and buick 350 only weighs 450 lbs...chevy 4.3 v6 weighs in at the same lol
any more videos of the truck?

yeah that 225 was an awesome motor, the only problem is price/availability of parts is scarce to non existant up here so not ideal for a trail truck! i mean the local supplier want 1k for a rebuild kit!!!!

The 225 did fit alot better than the TBI 4.3 i picked up, but i think the fuel injection will be worth the extra work.

yea, i have both a 93 chevy 4.3 tbi and a a 73 buick 350...just trying to figure which one would be better suited
both weigh 450 lbs
both have similar HP and TQ rating..350 has a tad more in both plus at lower rpms
2barrel vs tbi
hmm... lol
apperently all i need to do is pass a visual ..and sniffer if i go over 5k a yr

i think my next one will be a small block 350 with tbi, fuel injection is soooo nice on the trail, never worry about flooding running rich lean with altitude change, good on agles and tbi is pretty easy to wire so no real down fall. oh and trust me there will be another, i still got to build the wife a rig!

i know this post is old, but just wanted to retract my statement

buick 350 wont fit into a 3rd gen toyota as its too wide...it'd hit the steering shaft..so you;d have to offset the shaft somehow

buick 300 should fit with ease, as it has the same deckheight and exhaust port arrangement as a buick 231 v6.. and the 64 year 300 only weighs 400lbs! gotta love factory aluminum heads/intake
not sure about a buick 340...might..might not clear the dech height is in between a 300 and 350
buick 215 will work also just need to figure out the trans/case setup

215 buick

so i know this thread is old but it is the only one i've been able to find close to what i want to do. Last week i got an 86 4runner for free. pretty much like christmas. The 22re has about 2000 miles on fresh crank, pistons, valves and apparently was running great up till water started pouring out of the exhaust. The kid was fed up with it and gave it to me half way through the teardown. i have a 1962 aluminium 215 buickv8. I'd like to fit it right up to the toyota 5 speed and see what happens. any buick guys know how to do this? is the bolt pattern the same as the 225 v6?

i am pretty sure the bell housing pattern is the same on the 215 and the 225 but if you could take a pic of the 215 pattern i could tell you.

is their such a thing as a fuel injected buick v6 that would adapt to a toyota and if so couldnt you have a adapter plate made to fit the stock toyota tranny and t-case?

I never tried such a swap but the only fuel injected Buick V6 engines for RWD application are the 1984-89 3.8 turbo and the 3.8 that was used in the previous generation Camaro/Firebird.

The text in this link also says that some pre-1989 (or the pre-1988 and some 1988) fuel injected FWD 3.8 V6 engines also work:

http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/ar....jsp?id=186114

These engines aren't much more powerful than a Toyota 3.0 V6 (they do have more low RPM torque but the stock fuel injected pre-3800 non turbo Buick V6 engines had 150 HP!)

well i mean the 22re is killing me, bad fuel milage and NO and i mean NO power i like the chevy motors but i can settle with something. i dont much care for the 3.0l im wanting anything that will be current standards. i would consider a 3.4 and or a 4.3 but the archives arnt much help as far as a good source of which way to lean. im wanting a daily driver decent fuel milage and enough power to where i can climb a hill in 4th or 5th gear. the 2.4 is killing me in 2 and 3rd. my truck as a lot of miles on her but she is so dependable. any help ive heard of boaring and doing a mild cam can really help out the gutless 4 banger. ill keep goin through the archives for help but lil new and dumb so thanks for the help

i have to say after having the built 225 and now a stock 4.3 the 225 felt alot more powerful on the top end but the 4.3 is alot better on the low end grunt. my TBI 4.3 can take my 42 tsl's with 5.38's and still burn out on dry pavement in 2wd better than i could with the stok 22r and 235's! the 4.3 is alot lower power band vs the 225 in my opinion and makes it slightly more suitable for street driving, and also the buicks are harder to find parts for than the 4.3. if i was you i would go 4.3 for a DD/ trail truck. prob the cheapest fuel injected v-6 you could swap in.

yeah you can do that but the 3800's are still more expensive than the tbi 4.3 and parts are harder to find up here. and if i remember correctly it is a dodge dakata bell housing and some parts to make it work. i know i have seen it on pirate, the supercharged 3800 would be sweet if you could find one for the right price.

nope i used the same adapter that the buick used to mate to the w56. i hammered on it with the buick with the 65# flywheel and nothing broke so i think i am good.
