what muffler/exhaust are you using?
I'm running the 5VZ in my 94 T4R.
I am running some exhaust shop special muffler, I think it's a California Turbo or something. At any rate it drones too much. I was hoping to get some input on what to run. I like a little loudness but at highway speeds it seems to be too much sometimes.
Can anyone give me any ideas?

I have a 2003 tacoma that I run a flow master 40 series, and I like it enough that I plan to run it again on my 95 4runner I'm swapping a 3.4 into. It's quiet at idle but if you give it some rpm it gets noticeable. Which I like.
For the rest of the exhaust I used my donors everything and just redid the o2 holes and capped the old ones.

i'm running a downey offroad 2.5" mandrel bent system with an open chamber muffler(idk what brand) that i installed when my truck was a 4 cyl and downey was in business.
sounds throaty but no drone, really can't hear it at all at hwy speeds.
it also has obx stainless headers with a custom crossover underneath.
link in my sig to listen.

I was thinking of just buying a walker SS muffler or something and swapping it in, the drone is bad, not as bad as it was with the cherry bomb muffler I had.
Really looking for a stock sound, quieter the better.

diff swap?
it's not as loud as you might think, you can't even hear it in the truck over about 35 mph unless you punch it, but no drone at all.
i fabbed my own crossover out of stainless.
check out youtube vids of different mufflers to find what your looking for.
if you want a stock sound just get a stock muffler.

Front axle conversion is what I meant to say. I was wondering how you dropped the exhaust on the right side instead of left. Now i know. I've got a few different options I guess.
Thanks

If I was to do a 3.4 swap again I would do away with the stock crossover. I had mine wrapped in header wrap if that had something to do with it but if I drove my truck more than 30 min it would get nice and toasty inside, even in the winter.

I'm running a stock cat and a cheap Summit Racing Turbo Muffler and my truck is really quiet.
They get noticeably louder without a cat. Not sure if you're running one.

Yeah I have a magnaflow weld in cat conv that's listed on magnaflows website as the correct cat for the engine. 2.5" from cat back.
I couldn't really care less about volume because it's going to make plenty of power quiet or loud.

Homemade cross-under exhaust. Crush bent 1 7/8" from manifold to "Y" pipe, 2" resonator, then 2" into turbo, then 3" turbo back into a Jones magnaflow knockoff. It's loud and not pleasing to the ear with plenty of 2,500-3k rasp to boot. I am going to add a small 2" high flow cat before the resonator and try to change the tone, get rid of the stink, and rasp. KEEP YOUR CATS!

Im running a weld in universial magnaflow cat for this motor and a 40 series flowmaster muffler that was on my 83'. I took the straight axle and lift along with other goodies and built a 93 excab/3.4 swapped/SAS. Pretty sweet machine when all the work is done
