Do you know exactly what it came from. Year and model is VERY important!!!! On that blue tag in the picture there is a part number. What is it?

Personally I would pass on the T100 ECM. They are a it different that the Runner motors I believe.

Runners will not have an EGR and some Tacomas and t100's do which will cause issues with the ECM looking for it.

Did you ever get the part number for the harness on the blue label.?? You really need to know what that harness is from before you go ANY further. That will dictate a lot.

ECM's are very easy to find and not all that expensive ($75-100) for a 96-97 manual Runner ECM. The harnesses are the hard thing to find, so if you have a winner there in that harness you need to know. get the part number and post it up.

You are doing a good job Cody for a kid or anyone else. Keep at it!

Oh and PS..........2x4 vs. 4x4 for the ECM won't matter for what you are doing

That looks like a vin #. Maybe a deler can tell exactly that number lines up with as far as a vehicle. My electronic parts cat. only list 96-02 Runner/Tacoma......duh??

there should be a part # on it that looks like xxxxx-xxxxx (a ten digit number)

well the good news is I searched that number on google and it appears that it is the right wiring harness for the job...next thing to do is to find an ecm...also my uncle did pull the 4runner out of the mud and snow so i can start trying to get it ready to fire up and do a compression test on...

Im dumb for not having noticed this before but I was going over the ORS instructions and realized that in mid 97 that they changed the tps wiring from 4 to 3 prong since this 4runner is a 96 and harness is a 97 that is going to be a problem...can I just switch ends? or is the wiring harness even have the tps connected to it which i am guessing it does because i would expect ecm would run that...

Lovin it!!! How old are you again? I think that I have some Vans that are older than you!! You obviously have been doing your research and are asking some good questions, which is MUCH more that I can say for many guys that ask ridiculous question that just prove that they have read nothing and want a step by step manual like putting together a swing set or something.

Anyway, I am about 99% sure that in 96-97 use basically everything the same as far as monitoring sensors. I recently matched all of my components to a guy I know that has a 96 Runner and every part number was the exact same.

In short, you will be fine. Now you just need a 97 manual ECM. Part number is 89661-3d140 Car-part.com is a good resource for ECm's search computer box-engine control. They go from $50 and up. I paid $50 plus $10 to ship for mine.

MODS!!!!!!!!!!!Can we get this thread moved into the 3.4 swap forum and get this kid some more eyeball that can help as he proceeds forward Please??

Dntsdad, thank you...Im 16, and as nice as it might be to have some people looking at this so far all the questions I have asked you have been providing an answer for...so thank you once again and I will definitely check in on the ecm thank you for the parts number...also update I went out to my uncles tonight and got the tumblers broken out but I think the starter is starting to go out which leads me to my next question I may have read about this already but i can not remember so will my starter from my truck fit on that engine it looks like it should but im not for sure but it would be nice if it did because I just put that one on at the beginning of the summer so I would like it if I would not have to buy another one...
