well guys here is the story of my night...I live in a small town and so i know pretty much everyone and am friends with everyone so i was sitting there talking to the cop and he went back into his office and i hopped into my truck and decided i would let it rip a little for the cop and my mom just had this new turbo muffler put on my truck for christmas since mine fell off when i was coming out of my grandpas field and so it is some what loud at about 3800 rpms and so i get there and hit the clutch and all the sudden i hear this deep rumble and i was like o my truck shouldnt sound like that but it sure sounds cool so i drove it to my house and i got out and looked underneath and some how my muffler had decided to blow right off my catalitic...how crazy is that? lol I've had them fall off but never get blown off like that...lol

dntsdad I went back and reread some of your thread trying to clarify some issues I had in my head to make sure I understood everything so far...and I found the part where you were doing the repining of the wires you said that you came across a conversion diagram? would that diagram work for repining my manual 3.0 harness to a manual 3.4 harness? and if so is there any you could pm it to me or email it to me in some way please?

my next issue is I went out to look at the truck and i guess my uncle never got a key...how hard is it to just take out the ignition and complete a circuit between the ground and power wires?

actually... and I prolly should put this info out here.... But... you can actually pull the tublers outta there, and get a real narrow screwdiver to turn the ignition.... I know cuz I went to the parts store one day for oil or something, come back out, jump in and try to start the truck, but the key wouldnt turn So I ripped it apart, went back into the parts store and bought the narrow flathead screwdriver, and fired her up....I now know that just going to the dealer and giving them your vin# to cut a new key fixes this problem for about $5... I think thats less than I paid for the screwdriver, and only takes 4 min....

However, this was to change from a 97 Runner AUTO ECM to a 1997 MANUAL Runner ECM. This will NOT work for changing from a older pickup to a newer ECM. Unfortunately, there is no tried and true conversion info that I know of. You pretty much have to just work it out. Easiest way is just one wire at a time. There really are only about 12-15 wires that have to be merged from the old to new and it is not that hard. Confusing sometimes for sure though.
When I did the swap originally I had an auto trans from my donor 97 Runner that was installed and I had to wire all that from scratch. Changing from the auto to the manual meant rewiring everything again. THIS is when I was able to utilize Jeff's diagrams.
I hope this doesnt sound confusing. Its not as hard and I am probably making it sound.
