Swap issues- intake leak/idle issue
Sorry to post a new thread and not doing a build up here to keep it all together...
So after doing my swap and got her cranked up I've hit a few snags.
First, I have an exhaust leak from the exhaust manifold and haven't installed a full exhaust system behind my 1st 02 sensor (which is plugged in). I have codes popping up but don't have a scanner yet.
My main concerns are the following:
1.) I thought I had a vacuum leak, but it seems that its leaking from my stock intake manifold at the very bottom where it bolts to the engine. The leak is creating a very high pitched squealing sound. Is this a common thing for 3.4s?? (A manifold leak at 70K miles.) Seems like an easy task, but a hassle.
I searched and came up with this p/n for the gasket: can anyone confirm?
17176-62040
2.) I seem to have my timing off just barely, when its cold I can hear a soft knock every 15-30sec if that, it doesn't even do it all the time. However, because my exhaust system isn't on and there is no real back pressure, couldn't that be the cause?
3.) My idle fluctuates when the engine is cold. When I first start it its really high then suddenly drops and almost stalls, then gets high and almost stalls. It does that a couple times and levels out to a low idle. I assume this is because I don't have an exhaust system and have the gasket leak...
4.) At idle/playing with the throttle some, how long would you say it would take for the thermostat to open? I ran mine till the temp gauge got stable (a little under half) and it didn't opened up.
Anyway, otherwise the engine sounds great.
Thanks guys..
Chuck

I can only give insight into question 3. Mine did something similar a little bit after I got my swap done, where it would surge, almost die, surge, almost die, and so on. Turned out I had a vacuum leak in one of the hoses. Not sure if that's what's happening to you, or it could be related to the intake gasket leak you found.
