3.0 to 3.4 swap help
#21
Ok well the engine and tranny are only 5 miles away. The motor with harness is 150. Also the motor and tranny one is out of a 2001tacoma. So I don't know if that's a problem? Lastly can I get the engine and tranny then just go get a complete harness and ecu out of a 2001? Or needs to be just for that engine? If that's the case then forget it. Maybe I should just build the 3.0 up.

Doing a 3.4 swap with a complete donor is a LOT less trouble in every aspect.
Just picked up an 04 2WD Taco 3.4 donor complete and an additional stand alone 3.4 engine for $500 but that was a steal. The 2nd 3.4 we will source parts but considering we are starting basically free it's a no brainer.

Another question here. I have a 1992 Toyota pickup xtra cab I'm putting that 3.4 in. I am also doing an SAS. I assuming it's easier to do that without an engine in. Should I just start the sas and lookout for a full doner seeig as I don't need it for a bit? Or get that engine and tranny. He will go to $400. And collect other parts slowly? Or last option just build what I have. The 3.0? Port and full rebuild.

You're going to have to chop off the IFS while you swap the engine. The T100 oil pan won't fit in the IFS cross member if I remember it correctly.
While you're thinking....get working on taking out the 3.0 first....
You'll have to decide if you want to keep the a/c or use the 3.4 a/c. There's also cleaning up to do when you take out the 3.0

Oh ok sweet thanks guys. I have the 3.0 out but without the 3.4 donor or motor and harness I don't want to pull any wires from the engine bay that needa to stay. Also with 3.4 what gears should I run? I will have 35s. I have stock 4:56 in rear. Go 4:88 or 5:29 like I had in my 4cly. Thanks

Ah ok I will keep the 4:56 thanks or maybe 4:88. I have a set of both. This is off topic but last question for awhile. Thanks for all the responses thus far. I just picked up today a dual transfercase setup that came out of a 1983 Toyota. I k ow the crossmember won't work but does anyone know if the transfercases and adapter will work? On my 3.0 tranny. Thanks.

You'll need the v6 adapter from marlin or trail gear And those cases will go on your 3.0 tranny. I have duals on my 3.0 r150.
Also if you are going to run duals, I would surely go with the 4.56 gears. That's a good mix IMO. Decent highway speed but plenty low for off road with duals.

Alright. Probably just sell the dual case setup. Any idea how much I should ask? I got the complete front axle, complet rear axle with a lockrite locker, and the duals for 600. Also all four 4" superflex springs. Just selling the duals and rear axle for money back. What should I ask for each?

And finally set up to get that 2001 tacoma engine and tranny tomorrow with 135k. Doin a full rebuild. Just have to find a harness and ecu! And steering box? I don't know what the deal is on that either.

Ok well still trying to find the 3.4. In the mean time doin sas. There is a local guy here that says 1200 still in vehicle. Have anything I want. Motor, harness, ecu, evap, all that and has 66000. Won't sell whole thing. Just keep lookin for full doner I guess.
