Urgent help RE: wheel bearing/hub

so last weekend i was out wheeling got stuck and shattered my CV axle... took it apart, autozone replaced it for free, but now i started to replace the axle and i notced that in the process of driving around in 4wd wiht a busted axle (i didnt know what i did till later...) there were some good scrapes in the axle houseing....

now i am hoping that i can just pack it full of grease and call it good, or does it require more attention to it and i need to take it in.

i am hoping to get it done today, if i can... please let me know what you think.

looking at those pics, i would say dont just put grease in and keep driving, you might want to hold out for a little while longer and maybe bump this thread a few times...

You need to replace, at the very least, the bronze bushings on the inside and outside of the spindle. There is a roller/needle bearing upgrade I believe. Check the maint section for an article called "Spindle Bearing Replacement"
by Jim Rockford.

you'll need to have the axle housing refinished as replacing the bearings & such will only serve to have them eaten up by the scraps & groving that occurred while you were wheeling around with it after it was originally damaged.
in other words, you'll only be throwing money away stuffing new bearings in that damaged hub so, if you can't get it refinished, you should get it replaced, which is probally the cheapest route to go.
good luck,
