Post '96 Tacoma Running Hot

Hi all. I've been a lurker for about an month and now it's time for my first post so here goes:

I own a '96 Taco 2.7L and it seems to be running hot sometimes. I'll watch the temp gauge climb a bit and then return to normal running temp rather quickly. This will happen whether I am driving or sitting idly at at stoplight. I was thinking it was a sticking thermostat but I wanted to get some advice before replacing. Any help is appreciated.

Thx.

Heya Seth...Yep, sounds about right. That is what my 91 was doing before I replaced my thermo. Eventually it locked up tight and blew the seams on my old rusty radiator.

That happened about 5 months ago. It was about time to replace the radiator anyway.

When was the last time you replaced your coolant?
Is your coolant full?

Most likely a thermostat, but it wouldn't hurt to have your system pressure tested and then flushed.

I had my coolant flushed about 1 1/2 ago up north. I'll change the thermostat out and see what happens. BTW my original post stated a '94 Taco which is wrong. It's a '96 which I think is a first gen?

Thanks for the replies!

might be an air bubble in the system too............try letting the coolant warm up with the radiator cap off for a few to try and purge any air that might be trapped
