ok... i recently put a dif motor in my truck.. i got it for 150 bucks.... but it failed on me.. through a rod...I bought a parts yota a 1884 truck with a great engine in it!.... but see I need it in my other truck... I have a 1988 with a 22re in it that needs the 22r put in it.. can i take the carb off and the intake manifold off and swap the intake manifold and put the fuel injection on 22r???...and turn it into a 22re...and if i do that will all the electrical work for the 22r enginethats getting fuel injection? ..will the plugs be the same fire the wiring and stuff?.. willl the manifold fit on the engine??????

is it possible to swap an 1988 22re adn take a 1984 22r and use the efi on the 84 22r turning it to an 84 22re and put it in my 1988 truck.. with out changing wireing harness....or should i jsut drop the carbed engine in it and switch wireing harness??

short answer: yes, you can.

there is one bolt on the intake manifold that is located differently on the head ( by the #3 cyl... but you can just leave that one bolt out. put a plate over the fule pump port (use the one off your 88) the exhaust side shoudl be identical but in any case you'll probably find it easier to keep the manifolds with their repective engine and just disconnect the pipe (3 bolts versus 7)
as for the wiring -all the EFI stuff is connected to the intake manifold so that will just stay.. IF you decide the just keep the carburetor with the motor from the 84 in the 88 you don't need to switch the harness.. just leave all the exra wires alone or tie them off to the side with zipties and disconnect the fuel pump in the gas tank.

Yes, it can be done, but with what you have it will not just bolt on. The 81-84 heads are different then the 85-95 heads. The exhaust ports are different. I think it's the circle exhaust ports on that year (81-84) of head, if not it's the square design, I can't remember which one it is. The 85-95 heads have the oval design and your 88 exhaust manifold is the oval design...it will not fit on the 84 block in other words. I think the pistons are different too, which means the head has to be different.

Take a look at lc engineering web site below and see the differences. This first link is a head that converts the 81-84 head into the 85-95 head design with the oval exhaust ports for the 22re. It's pricey, but it's also lc engineering and there are cheaper options out there.

Once the head is straightened out, then use everything from the 88 on the new motor. The fuel system has to remain on the 88 because it has the proper set up for the higher fuel pressure the fuel injection needs. The engine harness will work.

Your question is hard to understand. Basically the long blocks are the same for all 1985-1995 22R's and 22RE's. 1984 and earlier are different.
