The BBB's regional office for East Tennessee is actually located in Knoxville....shouldn't take them too long to get down there and have a look

Rob, I am very happy to hear it worked out better than what could have been. $600 is an expensive lesson, but nowhere near $2000+

I am going to have to patch my radiator myself. Aluminum radiator repair is major expensive. I have done my research the past few days & should be able to do it no problem. The next thing will be to look at the engine & see what was done when it overheated. Thankfully there is a reputable Corvette only specialty shop in town that I can have look at the engine & make sure I order the right parts. Only problem is they have a waiting list about a month long! I'm pretty sure I can grease a palm to get the info I need to do the work myself though.
Going to have to change to an electric fan & radiator shroud at the very least though before the next adventure.

I am all for screwing those who attempt to screw others, but there are still some things I wonder before we rejoice about screwing the dealer.

First, where is the list of what was fixed versus what was quoted?

How much difference was the labor rate?

Were the parts all Toyota?

Not trying to be a prick, just wondering.

If they had to strip a hub, press bearings, reseal and throw an axle, caliper and rotor at one side, that would take me 3-4 hours for a side. Around here dealers are at 100 an hour, so I can see it getting expensive and ugly quick.

I just have a bad impression of Stealership service depts. since I worked in a dealership (sales) for over a year. I constantly saw people bent over for what should have been a reasonable bill. I left the business it was so underhanded.
On a personal note, the ex had a Jeep Cherokee & the power windows quit working. I took it to the local dealer & was quoted over $400.00 for the relay, labor etc. My buddy knew a local mechanic who fixed it for about $60.00

It's one of those thing where I believe:

A. You have to drive, so you have to have your vehicle fixed.
B. If you are from out of town/state you are not going to come back.
C. The dealer has an advantageous position and is going to exploit that.

They (dealerships) don't have the reputation they do over the last 100 years by being saints. While every one must make a profit to stay in business, I see a difference between profit & gouging.

Yeah I have my friendly mechanic here in town that actually fixed my other honda accord that I wrecked and did an awesome job on it. Done some other work as well. As soon as I get my 4wd parts I might even have him help me do the conversion. and he also paints.

my dealer in town is nice but I still think he rapes me.

I'm back from my Fl. vacation. Glad to see you have worked things out. Hope you called Jimmy at J&S, he would have arranged the shop schedule to allow for you're repairs?...as a favor to me

I couldnt get my vehicle to cookeville, the towing was going to be around $300 to get it there, so i had the repairs done at a shop within a mile down the street from the Stealership. When Doc tried to drive it even a few 100 feet, the front left tirewouldnt even turn.
