Rockstomper sheath guard
#21
Success!!!
By golly miss Molly, it be on.
I had to use an awl to dig into the end of the rope by the end link that screws onto the winches drum.
The rope is doubled up in there, and no way would the sheath slip over it.
Then I had to take a hacksaw to the excess line. Very hard to cut, and I gave up using a knife.
This winch line is after all 14K lb tested or higher. Very strong stuff.
Once I got it sawed off close to the end of the link, I took a lighter and burned the end of the rope.
Then Shane's idea came to the rescue.
I pushed a coat hanger through the sheath and attached it to the crimp link. Had to start the sheath over the link with some needle nose pliers, but once it got started, it went easy.
I was even able to repair the sheath I butchered up yesterday. Cut a few inches off of it, and then torched the end of it so it wouldn't unravel.
So now I have 2 5' sections on at the beginning of the line by the red hook.
I can see Masterpull weaving the rope in there for extra safety, but Rockstomper doesn't do it, and I don't think it's really a necessity, as the rope is still tight in the end link.
Plus you never unwind all the line anyway.
You always leave a few wraps on the drum, or you can use an extension if more line is needed.
Glad this is out of the way.
