Mileage? 22R? Look for rust in the floorboards, fender wells, check out the FRAME and make sure it's solid. No rust, etc...
Just like buying anything else, generally you get what you pay for. Look out for fishy stuff with the title etc, other than that hop in that beast, take it for a good test drive, make sure 4WD works and welcome to the community!

How much is it listed for?
And be more specific about what you want to know about first gens.
The key note that I would hit on is rust. Our trucks tend to be prone to rusting. Don't just look at the body. Check INSIDE the frame rails, at the welds to suspension mounts and body mounts and check the floor boards (inside and out). As for the motors, I can safely say that if it runs it's good to go! I bought my 83 off of an idiot who seemingly tried everything in his power to destroy the motor. I was getting 6 mpg, had a horrible oil leak and wouldn't go faster than 45 mph in 4th gear and would pull 5th with 33" tires on in. I swapped out the oil pan that had a pencil eraser size hole in it put on a new fuel pump, weber carb, new distributor, desmogged it, new wires, new plugs, new 31' tires, new fuel lines, new vacuum lines, new hoses, and new suspension. The PO had the timing retarded by about 10 degrees so that was causing most of my power problems. It's got a rear seal oil leak that I will be fixing this weekend when I swap out the clutch, but other than that it's running great - 17-20 MPG on less than perfect compression.
When you buy it, give it a good once over...change all the fluids, lube all fittings and I would recommend replacing your general maintenance items. ie: filters, plugs, wires, hoses, etc. If it looks old, replace it. Parts are cheap for these vehicles

its nice for me to live in the pnw where we dont have any rust issues but definatly sounds good and if the motor is that clean then they most likely took care of it

Looks pretty good from the crappy pics. Seems to have a weber carb installed. Yes look for rust in the floors boards, bedsides and take a hammer and tap on the frame to see if there is any bad spots.

Yeah... That's a damn good buy! I paid $2k for my truck and it wasn't nearly as clean as that one. Put it this way, if it was closer to me you wouldn't be able to buy it because it would be sitting in my driveway already!! I'd even be willing to pay $3k for that truck as long as it ran half way decent.
Quit posting on this forum, head to the bank and buy that truck!
