22reT possibly buyer looking at options
i am looking at a 87 turbo 4runner. i am Skeptical about the turbo, and the Turbo Automatic with Overdrive (Heavy Duty 23 Spline Output Shaft). i have had an auto 4runner of that year are they all gutless P.O.S. or is this a better tranny? would buying this be a money/death pit?

Absolutley A money pit , the automatics are the same in all the 4Runners but can still be fun if you have some bucks to throw at it. the novelty of the Turbo does not last long.

If you are talking about this: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/2621216485.html
Prepare to break out the wallet. Turbo trucks are expensive, difficult to find parts for, and the turbos were junk. Be prepared to immediately spend a few thousand when you buy the truck to repair the wastegate housing.

I just came accross this thread in reguards to research for the SAME Craigslist add! Gotta love the Yota community. Im looking for a reliable 4runner in 8 out of 10 shape, however, from what i gather there is nothing special about the turbo 22R's unless you wanna spend $$ on them to upgrade.
Any idea what kind of gas milage one would get?
