Well, and update:

The tailgate is almost done with repairs, will post pics when its done and remounted.... total cost: 1 strip of metal at lowes, 1 rattle can of primer and one of gloss black.

I had an interesting brainstorm last night... ever thought of doing a can-back type top on it? I'd be up for welding a pair of them together if you know a good canvas place that could do a top. Although it may end up being so much work that it'd be worth just buying a canback.
