Just bought a T100

I just bought a 1996 Toyota T100 SR5 4x4. Loving it so far. It has a 3' lift with 33' tires. It only has 91k miles on it and i got an amazing deal. Only paid 6000. I have only one problem. The cruise control doesn't work. Also how many MPG's do most of you get with your T100? I will post some pics soon.

Lucky son-of-a-gun I love T100s.

Is it an auto or manual? I've heard/read about 20mpg hwy and 16-18 city.

Post some pics, AHORA!

She's a beauty. I've always liked the t100 too. Don't see many of them around here with a lift and beefy tires though. Good find. FYI...Toyota calls for the timing belt and waterpump to be replaced at 90k on the 3.4l. Many have gone much longer with no problems. Just something to think about for peace of mind.

could be a number of different things as to why the cruise doesn't work. could be a bad switch, fuse, actuator motor, brake light switch, etc. havent seen any problems with them so can't give a common problem.

Sounds like the multi-function switch.

You should be able to order one at the dealership for $40-ish. MPG with the 3.4 should be in the high teens. I average 18 in town and about 20+ on the highway.

Nice truck!

cruise

I have the same model with 117k and the cruise has been an issue twice in the last year.

The first issue was related to a poor job the previous owner did on wiring the trailer lights. The old trailer lights were removed and replaced with the snap in type set. Good luck finding one - auto parts stores don't carry them. You will most likely have to order online.

The second issue was just solved this last weekend. Same deal - cruise light is on - but the cruise will not engage. It was a symptom of a bigger issue. The plate that mounts the clutch pivot to the fire wall failed. Mine had cracked and when depressed, it would flex. I was not getting the full throw of the clutch pedal.

Because of that, the shifting was becoming difficult (go figure). I had a buddy weld some reinforcements to the plate and weld the plate itself. Clutch issue fixed. Also fixed the cruise issue. My buddy said this is because there is a switch on the clutch pedal assembly (?) I am not really sure how they are connected - but it worked.

The clutch plate assembly is something that shows up around 100k. Get a flashlight and take a look under the dash at the plate and firewall when working the clutch.

Hope this helps.

I just bought a 1997 T100 Extended Cab 4X4, 68K miles, for $5000.00. I guess I got a pretty good deal, but the timing belt, etc...hadn't been replaced yet, so I'm having that done next week ($700+, belts and few other things). Been driving it for a few weeks and there don't seem to be any issues though.

Planning on installing some Warn Hubs and getting a liner put in.

If you're going for manual hubs put Aisins on... much better quality then Warn...
WabFab can hook you up with a nice set for a very reasonable price...

That clutch bracket fatigue issue has come up before... there is a thread here someplace on what/where to look for and a reinforcing idea...

My '95 has 210K miles. I had an intermittant issue with the cruise. The windshield washers & intermittant wipers also did not work. Turned out to be the multifunction switch.
The dealer wanted several hundred dollars for the switch.
I got one from an all toyota salvage yard in California. Used was $40. http://www.alltoyotatrucksuvparts.com/
Fixed all my electrical issues.
Good luck!

For Finder216, changing out the timing belt allready? Oh well...while you are in there, I would change out the water pump & pully's too. You have to remove the water pump anyway to do the belt. The largest expense of doing the belt is labor, so knock it out all at the same time. You shouldn't have to go into the front of the motor for another 100K miles after that.

I just bought a 1997 T100 4x4 5 spd with 264,000 on the clock. I got an amazing deal because is wasn't running right (turns out it was just a bad spark plug). After the initial purchase ($2000) I have put another $1400 into it. New Bilstiens all around, full sythetic fluids throughout, pitman arm, steering stabilizer, and a variety of other smaller items (they add up quick). It still has good compression in all cylinders and doesn't leak anywhere (after I fixed a leak in the transfer case). Even the body is pretty good, other than the scratches that accumulate with this many miles. So far I am very happy with this truck!

97 T100 SR5 Ext Cab

I got about 22 mph (Hwy) coming back from Jersey a couple of months ago. Getting the second timing belt and first water pump and pulley set (196000).
In the process of replacing the brake hoses, struts, and some other minor things. No problems with the cruise control or anything. As far as struts, I am planning on picking up a set of KYB, anybody have any info on their performance?
