Bent 2wd front suspension problem.

My brother is giving me a T100 with some damage to the front suspension.
After his accident he took it to an alignment shop an they told him it had a bent part and could not be aligned but they did not tell him what part.
Having not yet looked at it in person I'm pretty sure it is the Strut Bar.
Salvage yards are totally confused when I ask them if they have a strut bar and try to sell me a torsion bar.

The impact was all absorbed by the wheel and came from about 8 o clock.

Any advice or pictures of the suspension would greatly help.

I plan to drive the truck about 200 miles home so I either need to get the suspension straight or put some tires on the front that I dont mind shredding.

Thank you

im confused when you say strut bar also. a strut bar is usually a brace that spanes between the 2 strut towers. you dont have a strut bar. if i had a guess, i would say the back of your IFS cage is bent in (closer in the back then the front). this can be fixed.

I'm going off of this image from a cheap repair manual. The part labeled strut bar ties the lower arem to the frame and limits fore/aft movement. its just at the right angle to be damaged by a side , slightly to the rear, impact.

What part is the IFS (independent front suspension?) cage?

Thank you for the reply

the cage is what all of the front end bolts to. if that is the part that looks bent to you it might be the lower arm. but after you try to fix it you might find other thengs that are bent. good luck..

You absolutely have a strut bar. See here beginning post #24 for a pic... http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/60...shaking-2.html

It's only on the 2wd T100s....the 4WDs do not have them.

Try using car-part.com for a local yard, or perhaps you can use the toyota part numbers at an auto parts store (see the posted thread for the part numbers as well).

However, since you haven't seen it in person, there's no guarantee this is the problematic part. Good luck!

You were right. The part of the frame that protrudes down to hold the lower suspension arm is bent toward the rear. This is a part of the frame that cannot be unbolted and replaced. I'm considering trying to bend it back forward.
NTB was able to align it enough for me to drive home 200 miles. They got the toe-in straight to save the tires but the camber and caster are still way off.

I'm also considering just leaving it like it is as little as I'll be driving it.

This is not a terribly uncommon problem from what I have heard. Most people do it from 4-wheelin' to hard though. SDORI sells a frame brace to prevent this exact problem (http://www.sdori.com/SDORI_Products.html) $150 + shipping. These are for 4WD trucks only though, not sure what yours is. If you can get it bent back into place correctly, it might be worth reenforcing it with one of these bad boys.
