86 4runner 22r extravaganza, wont stay running
I have a 1986 Toyota 4runner as my daily driver. This thing has done me nothing but good in the 3 years of owning it until now!
Problem: Tries to start and will start for a second or two, but then will stall out and even trying to gas it and keep it going it will still stall out. Every once and a while it will run fine for a few days and then all the sudden it will leave me sit. Then I trailer it home and try new things then it will run again for a few more days and leave me sitting once again.
Attempts: I have tried fixing just about everything that i could think of. I put on new of the following...
. Fuel pressure regulator
. Fuel filter
. Throttle positioning sensor
. Cap and rotor, plugs and wires
.... I have my egr valve unhooked but i have been driving it that way for two years previous to this extravaganza.
Overall: It has fuel pressure going into the injectors, has plenty of spark. I have cleaned all the grounds on the whole rig. My old man seems to think that there is some kind of electrical disaster. No check engine light is on.
Help: If anyone has any tips or tricks to try and diagnose my problem or may have any idea on what it may be i would be more than happy to try it out cause I love my 4runner and want it back on the road. THANKS

I had a similar problem on my 86 4Runner, its was running good one day and the next day nothing, it wouldn`t start. It would try and start if i sprayed some carb cleaner into the intake but would die soon after. I had fuel presure and spark and checked everything i could, but i could find nothing wrong. I had a spare solenoid resistor and i decided to try it because nothing else so far had worked, and it started on the first try. Maybe that part had been going bad for a while, because it was hard to start sometimes, and now it starts every time.

Thanks man ill give that a try this weekend. Funny thing is though with my 4runner is that it seems to not run if it rains or if it is really humid almost like moisture is an issue as well.

When it rains does it seem like the injectors arn`t firing ?. Im going to throw out a few other things for you to check. In the fuse box behind the driver side kick panel check the EFI and ignition fuse, sometimes they get corroded and your 4Runner won`t start, i had this happen to me on my 86 4Runner. Another thing that happens on our trucks is were the wires for the injectors are spliced together, they will corrode and break. So try the fuses first before getting into the wiring harness.
