1993 22re elecrrical problems
Hi everybody my name is Dennis and this is my first posting here. I have a couple of strange things that are happening with my 1993 long bed p/u truck with a 22re engine. The 1st. thing is that: I have to advance the distributor all the way forward to be able to get the timing to 5 degrees BTDC. I have checked the 0 degree mark on the crank pulley with the position of the piston. The last time I had the valve cover off to adjust valve lash. The rocker arms for #1 cylinder were both loose. The camshaft gear was in the 11 o'clock or 11:30 position (depending on who you talk to). That kind of ruled out a mechanical problem. The next thing I did was to replace the "throttle position" sensor. No change! The next thing was to check and adjust the timing sensor in the distributor, again no change! Do not know where to go from here. The 2nd. thing is that the speedometer works when it feels like it. No rhyme or reason as to when it will work. If the ambient temperature is cold it may not work, same thing if it is warm. Going fast or slow does not have any effect on it either. I have changed the sender in the transmission to no avail. 3rd. . thing is that when I use my turn signals for turning left or right sometimes the speedometer needle will drop to 0mph and then go immediately go back up to the speed it was last registering. Again no rhyme or reason. Fast, slow, cold, or hot. Any assistance you could offer would be most appreciated. I have a feeling that they all have a common origin. I purchased the Toyota wiring service manual for this truck and have gone over every wire going to the computer and they are all within spec except for the Toyota mistakes. Dennis
