weight lifting 101, putting your ridiculously heavy spare on rack.

Goooodness!!!!!! Im not a skinny weak guy by any means but man having to use no running boards or sliders to step on was ridiculous. I think I could make the women flock if I lifted my spare 5 times a day on that rack.

step 1: throw spare off rack.. then do a powerclean stance and pull spare to chest. then thrust legs upwards to get spare over head.. then find a way to get the damn thing on the truck 5 more times hahahah.

sellin my tires so i had no room for my 4th so it went on the rack

I'm lazy.

I'd use my winch to rig up a few pulleys on a tree branch and just hoist it up there!

be careful with that. i kept my 33 spare on my roof rack till it ripped the whole thing right out of the roof. The factory mounts are not meant to support heavy loads under the beating and bouncing of off roading. The factory mounts on my truck were just held in with 4 sheet metal screws. I drilled out the holes and put 6 bolts with washers in and sealed it up with silicone.

yeah i had to hoist it up there by myself. i basically did one full motion and tossed it into the rack. it went BAM! but the rack was just fine. then i used the bumper as a step and hastily moved it into place and screwed the pin in.

ugh....

i've always questioned whether mounting a spare on the roof is really a good idea or not. besides being a real pain to get at, it also brings your COG up quite a bit...

..and your MPG down quite a bit. If I ever take my tire out from under the truck, it's going in the back!

Don't remember who posted it, but someone mounted a second gen rollbar in their 3rd gen and mounted the tire to that. That's about as good as it gets without fabricating a rear bumper to hold it on the back. (I *love* Bamachem's setup!)

How about a pulley thing mounted to the rollbar so it can pull the tire up and keep it off of the floor, so you have more useful cargo space?

However, it would be right in the path of the rearview mirror, but who needs that anyways...

ecchamberlin did it with his first gen rollbar.. however my subs in the way so it wouldnt even work for me. I need to fab a box up to get some more space in the rear. need to mount the amp elsewhere so I can discconnect subs for camping and what not.

right now my plans are either a better rear bumper that will allow a 285 underneath or a rear bumper with swing out tire carrier. i dont want to loose mpgs more then I already have. its too damn heavy. Need a crane
