Towing w/ 5 spd
Coming up in a week or so I'll be taking a new wakeboard boat for its 20 hour new maintenance work and ill be pulling it with my 2000 tacoma v6 5spd. I don't know how much it weighs, i havent seen it yet nor do i know the boat or trailer specs, but im preparing for the worst which is 5000 pounds. thats not an ideal weight to be towing around, i know, but i figure this one time to the shop and back will be fine, it wont be a repeating thing. anywho, i've always read that for towing people should get a tranny cooler and well, i thought i also read that that applies only to automatics. upon further YT searching, no one ever mentions if they mean for an auto or 5spd...so does a 5spd ever need a tranny cooler for towing? thanks.

No, you don't need a tranny cooler for a manual. The fluid (gear oil) doesn't heat up with load like an automatic.
Do you have manual hubs (I'm guessing probably not)? Because 2 low might be handy if it weighs that much!

Your '94 is a whole lot easier and cheaper to convert than his Taco - all you need are the locking hubs. He has to completely rebuild the front end (convert it from semifloat to full float)

I tow a pair of 770cc jet skis on a single trailer with my 5spd 22RE running 33's. I won't set any acceleration or braking records but it gets the job done.
